Really? They’re still doing that?

Hmmmn.
This “pope-in-name-only” grants regional indulgences for a catholic conference attendees going to Dublin IMMEDIATELY after Ireland (Dublin!) voted for abortion.
Seems we have seen indulgences “sold” for worldly events before: contributing to cathedrals, going on Crusades, giving to the bishops .....
But never a word of disgust nor condemnation for Ireland from this socialist piece of propaganda.

Sinner saved by grace not works here. (Southern Baptist)
No indulgence necessary.
Just the blood of a truly awesome God.

I cannot pray for the Pope’s intentions (it would be insincere)but I do pray for his conversion...

Believe it or not, yes. It's one of the things about Catholicism (along with trotting out relic bones of dead saints) that causes our Protestant brethren to think that we're completely koo-koo.

Catholics don’t belive the blood of Christ cleans us of all sins if we confess our sin...?

"Participants attending the World Meeting of Families in August can be forgiven their sins [via indulgences]." - BBC BBC got it wrong (again.)
Indulgences do not have anything to do with the forgiveness of sins, let alone salvation per se.
Per Catholic doctrine, you can neither receive an indulgence nor benefit from one if you are not already in a state of grace. In other words, an indulgence is to an "unsaved" person as... umm...lemme see... as a scissors is to a caterpillar.
Sump'n like that.
Bottom line: don't get your theology from BBC.

Catholics *do* believe the blood of Christ cleans us of all sins if we confess our sin...
Seriously.
And BBC is seriously annoying.

Jesus said on the cross “It is finished”.
The final sacrifice was and is complete. It is by His work that we are saved. Sola Gracia.
Anything else puts us back in slavery to the old law. Paul wrote extensively on that.

don't get your theology from BBC. Good idea in general ... Don't believe anything else the Beeb publishes, either.

In Catholic doctrine an indulgence frees you from being punished for your previously committed sins or it can be passed on to dead relatives to shorten their time in purgatory. A concept taught NO WHERE in the NT.

Honest question: If I am in a state of grace (if I am saved) then what does an indulgence do for me?
To: Mrs. Don-o
I take your word for it...
If what you claim is true, what's the purpose of indulgences... ? Purgatory is punishment, if your sins are forgiven, why are the Catholics being punished

Catholics *do* believe the blood of Christ cleans us of all sins if we confess our sin... If Roman Catholics believe this, then the concept of purgatory and the indulgences are a false teaching.
As would be the false teaching of wearing a piece of cloth or medal to avoid the hell-fire.

Okay, but then what’s the benefit of an indulgence? If you’re already in a state of grace, what’s an indulgence supposed to do for you?
