New California Law Limits How Much Water People Can Use

There will soon be more focus on flushes and scrutiny over showers with a new law signed in by the governor.

California is now the first state in the nation to enact tough new water-efficiency standards. The controversial rules limit how many gallons a person can use inside their home per day.

“So that everyone in California is at least integrating efficiency into our preparations for climate change,” said Felicia Marcus, Chair of the State Water Resources Control Board.

So, what are the new rules?

In 2022, the new indoor water standard will be 55 gallons per person, per day. by 2030, it will fall to 50 gallons.

“With a child and every day having to wash clothes, that’s, just my opinion, not feasible. But I get it and I understand that we’re trying to preserve…but 55 gallons a day?” said Tanya Allen, who has a 4-year-old daughter.

Just how many gallons do household chores take?

An 8-minute shower uses about 17 gallons of water, a load of laundry up to 40, and a bathtub can hold 80 to 100 gallons of water.

“She likes to bathe three times a day and she does laundry all day,” said Rocka Mitchell from Texas.

He and his wife Ginger are living in Sacramento for work and say it would be hard to conserve.

“I couldn’t do it. My family is way too large,” she said.

Retrofitting homes with water-efficient fixtures could help cut back.

They’ll probably just sell water credits so those with the pools can purchase them and not feel bad when they go for a swim. Al Gore already has them indoctrinated with the carbon offsets.

Instead of water projects or building more deal plants. Carlsbad opened a deal plant two years ago and increased the water supply in SD County by 10%. Brown did nothing and put billions into his low speed train to nowhere.

The entire population of California will soon be smelling like what I used to associate with what Trump called “$#ithole countries”. Not exactly an Irish Spring memory.

What a joke... We have a large garden plus a small orchard . We quit watering our lawn 3 years ago and our water district is millions in debt and relies on consumption to pay off the bonds

The democrats refuse to build more water storage.
They are restricting water use in the central valley which grows most of the country’s vegetables - to steal land at the lower value for the bullet train and other unknown reasons.

Oh and the politicians get free car and gas and insurance and even homes so I bet they will not have any water restrictions and they won’t be paying any high water bills.

At some point, the water utility will complain that they are losing money due to the drop in usage, and they will get a rate increase. That happened there in the ‘70s, during one of the perennial “water crises”.

“If it’s brown, flush it down
If it’s yellow, let it mellow.”
was the watchword. That and suggesting you put a brick in the toilet reservoir.
