Parents face charge after giving teen marijuana to treat alleged seizures
Fox News ^ | June 1st, 2018 | By Alexandria Hein

A Georgia family has been torn apart after authorities placed a 15-year-old teen in a group home following a tip from his therapist that his parents gave him marijuana in an effort to control his seizures.

David Brill, whose parents Suzeanna and Matthew spent six days in jail after their arrest, allegedly suffers from near-constant seizures.

The couple maintains that marijuana kept him seizure-free for 71 days, until Twiggs County sheriff’s deputies knocked on their door and told them to stop. The couple said they obliged, only for Brill’s seizures to return just hours later.

“Within 14 hours of complying we were rushing our son to the hospital,” Suzeanna Brill told The New York Times. “And it was one of the most horrific seizures I’ve ever seen.”

In April, Brill was taken into custody by the state Department of Family and Children Services following an order from a juvenile court judge. He has been separated from his service dog, and is only allowed to communicate with his parents through phone calls and short visits, 13WMAZ.com reported.

In early May, Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal signed a bill that adds PTSD and intractable pain to a list of medical conditions that are eligible to be treated with cannabis oil. Late-stage cancer patients and those suffering from seizure disorders are also eligible to seek cannabis oil treatment, but state law still bans growing, buying or transporting marijuana.

“He has been separated from his service dog...”

Isn’t that a violation of the ADA?

He should use CBD oil made from hemp and contains only trace amounts of THC. That will prevent introducing carcinogenic smoke into his lungs and frying his brains.

Does she have a prescription, or is she violating a law?

CBD oil is legal to use in Georgia, but it can’t be legally, or easily, obtained here.

Sad that the parents didn’t realize how controversial that form of therapy still remains. I’m sure they were delighted to find anything that would stop the seizures. They just never told their son to be more discreet.

I’m not for kids smoking to get high, but I’m all for using the ingredients in marijuana to help during a nerve disorder.
I cannot imagine going through the day like that, with my body seeming to be at war with me no matter what I did.

Brill was taken into custody by the state Department of Family and Children Services

He was NOT taken in to Custody, he is the VICTIM OF A VIOLENT FELONY KIDNAPPING, and every last person involved belongs in PRISON FOR LIFE, Starting with the Judge that orchestrated this FELONY KIDNAPPING!

Move to Florida...medical cbd remedies are available with a card from the State.

They have many different types of blends, but I believe kids that use straight CBD tinctures get relief from seizures...they’re not looking for the blends.

I have an acquaintance whose 10 year old had had constant seizures her entire life...then they were able to get the CBD oil from a dispensary. The seizures stopped. She realized it was the first time her other children had ever seen or gotten to know their sister without the constant seizures.

Sad that the parents didn’t realize how controversial that form of therapy still remains—who had no criminal intent, only wanted to improve their child's quality of life, and who had clearly found a viable treatment which profoundly did precisely that—couldn't have their Liberty respected enough to avoid being persecuted by an overbearing, Tyrannical Nanny State, a State whose blindly dogmatic actions instantly caused that child's quality of life to plummet drastically.

There. Fixed...

Appears some laws in Georgia regarding this are like hearing news right out of 1952..Might as well sieze their home, car and used furniture!

Oh. I see you ‘fixed it’ for me.
This second draft works as well as my first.

This entire thing is very disturbing———the president just signed a law that terminally ill patients can try experimental drugs yet this family can’t use something that they KNOW works.

Junkies are given clean needles in some communities.

Now the poor kid is living in a group home? The world has gone mad.

“He should use CBD oil made from hemp and contains only trace amounts of THC.”

The article didn’t say that CBD was responsible for stopping the seizures.

But that’s ok because they hate themselves. If they liked themselves, their whiteness would be unforgiveable.

Cases like this continue to weaken the already withering support for marijuana prohibition. It's getting to the point where I won't be surprised when it is President Trump himself who signs the law decriminalizing marijuana.

It'll be funny to see the New York Times spin on it when he does. "Trump put dozens of drug-sniffing dog trainers out of work"

I know people who purchase it from their pain management physicians, but there’s no tch in it. It’s still effective, though. Cbd is legal in our state, as is marinol, a synthetic marijuana prescribed for anorexia. (I think IT runs about $1200/month, though). Cbd is about $100 for a month supply.

Stuff like this is what makes the citizenry hold the gov’t in contempt.

For decades, Big Pharma has had a choke hold on the people, making sure laws were passed to ensure only their poison pills. Mafia don’t like competition.

It’s past time for correction.
