The FBI Used Its Secret Spy Program To Protect Killers, Jail Innocents, And Screw Victims
The Federalist ^ | May 24, 2018 | Sean Davis

An internal FBI spy program reportedly used to surveil the Trump campaign has a long history of being used to protect killers and jail innocents.

Following reports that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) used at least one spy to secretly surveil members of the Trump campaign, fired former FBI director James Comey lashed out at critics of his agency’s activities during the 2016 election.

“Facts matter. The FBI’s use of Confidential Human Sources (the actual term) is tightly regulated and essential to protecting the country,” Comey tweeted on May 23. “Attacks on the FBI and lying about its work will do lasting damage to our country.”

While Comey’s record on truth-telling is decidedly mixed, he is correct that facts matter and that the FBI’s use of informants is governed by strict guidelines. How and why many of those guidelines came to be are important facts that the American public deserves to know as it considers revelations that the FBI used wiretaps and spies to surveil Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, his transition, and perhaps even his presidential administration.

Those guidelines, many of which the Government Accountability Office found were not being followed as recently as 2015, were put in place after rogue FBI agents working in the Boston field office routinely worked to cover up murders committed by their informants. You might say they were the direct result of justifiable attacks on the FBI for unconscionable violations of the public trust.

A general problem w/any intel oriented group - they value their informants more than your safety. It takes a long time to get a good source.

It’s a similar mentality to gov folks wanting back doors into your devices and software. It gives them great monitoring ability even though it exposes you to intrusion from other hostiles.

AND similar to those gov folks that think only the gov should have guns.

Yeah, goes back to the Whitey Bulger debacle. The FBI is just a dirty place.

Defund the “intelligence” community.

Make them justify the existence of the agencies program by program, starting with a zero baseline budget.

I’ve had to do the same for the groups I’ve led in corporate America many times.

It’s time for the “people” to take back control from this rogue agency. More Congressional oversight and Court approval for such intrusive surveillance is a must.

“More Congressional oversight “.

But look at our Congressional oversight with the Senate Intelligence Committee headed by North Carolina Senator Richard Burr who is led around by the nose by Democratic Senator Mark Warner! Some oversight!

“A general problem w/any intel oriented group - they value their informants more than your safety.”

Which means they exist for themselves, and not for good of the public. Seems to me they've made the same pathetically stupid mistake as most government agencies - recruiting clueless self-centered snots from ‘name’ universities. That's a proven formula for disaster, and has been shown to be so over and over again.

"The FBI’s use of Confidential Human Sources (the actual term) is tightly regulated and essential to protecting the country,”

Everything is highly regulated.

But in practice the regulations only serve to give false comfort to the populace.

The elites and power-holders do what they want without regard to regulations.

Why was the arrogant POS agent thrown in jail? Reduces any hope of seeing the current crop of crooks making little rocks out of big rocks rates as slim to none.

Sorry folks, but I don’t see ANYBODY going to jail over this - not even SWMNBN.

Reading about all the malfeasance of the FBI makes me want to cheer for the bad guys in movies and television. Tony Soprano was a thug, but at least he never pretended to be a good guy. The FBI has run its course. It’s time to completely dismantle the agency and start over.

This spy program was in place long before obama.>>>>>>

In place before obama but he ran like a man on a mission with all the broken laws and turned this country into his own lawless ways... he wanted to “fundamentally change this country” and he was on his way.

This fbi... the ones Fox claims are “hard working, good persons” ... don’t sound like it from this article... it sounds like a communistic country... they rule by threat and arrest if one did not conform and accept the “rule of law” the elite group set up.

We have a constitution and the elite swamp wants to do away with all that old, out of fashion, out of date, in the way, constitution ... if that ever happens, this land will never be the land of the brave and the free... it would turn into a hell hole and not fit for anyone but the top brass. and that’s just what they want.

Imperium in imperio. The FBI is a state within a state. It must be crushed and reformed to its proper functions.

The FBI is an agency, it is not in the Constitution, it can be dismantled and replaced.

Aid and comfort to the enemy.

Those in the FBI and DJO who are responsible need to be tried and convicted and experience that short drop and quick stop.
