The Nebraska State Patrol says the nearly 120 pounds of suspected cocaine and fentanyl that troopers seized last month turned out to be all fentanyl, a deadly opioid that federal officials blame for thousands of deaths nationwide.

The patrol says the stash was a record fentanyl seizure in Nebraska and estimates the drugs may have been worth up to $20 million on the street. The Drug Enforcement Administration says just 2 milligrams of fentanyl can be lethal. The fentanyl seized was enough to kill 26 million people, according to DEA estimates.

There is no difference between having a few ounces of this substance and carrying around a canister of Sarin gas.

No difference? Hyperbole much?

Wrong. It’s a pain medication used to treat chronic pain. It’s used in time release patch (3 days), and IV. But by all means be ignorant.

Also, why shouldn’t people be allowed to use this drug? It should be up to the user, shouldn’t it?

I think few if any opioid abusers want fentanyl; it's used to boost the potency of heroin, and addicts would be happy to stick to fentanyl-free heroin ... only there's no way of knowing in an illegal market.

“It’s medicinal use is very limited....You may want to double-check that one.”

Medicinal use

Medicinal fentanyl comes in a number of different forms and strengths including:

Transdermal patches
Lozenges/lollipops
Intravenous injection

I didn’t say it has no use, just limited. The illegal traffic far exceeds the legitimate market. The use of traditional opioids present a hazard, but these designer drugs are literally in another class based on the lethality.

Singapore has the death penalty for drug dealers. We should too. IF they don’t kill people with their wares, they certainly mess up their lives. They must be stopped.

It’ll never happen here. Because the prison/probation/parole/law enforcement complex would fight to the death to keep the borders open and the drug flowing.

And there's one even stronger called carfentanyl. Bad stuff. A little goes a long way.

I had to see on my old bottle of oxy - one tablet is 5 mg. Man - 40 mg is a lot of pills. Although I guess when my knee was really bad I was taking about 8 a day. (Of course, not all at once!)

I wish the U.S. applied the death penalty more regularly and in a timely fashion. Just out of morbid curiosity, what form of death penalty is used in Singapore?

In Singapore the death penalty is carried out by hanging. But it is a relatively rare event.

“Fentanyl has virtually no medicinal purpose.”

total bullshit. you’re either a liar or pathetically ignorant.

Fentanyl combined with Versed are used as the IV sedative in every cardiac catheterization procedure, every endoscopic procedure, every colonoscopy, every cataract surgery, and dozens (if not hundreds) of other similar procedures. The Fentany/Versed IV is used millions of times a year in this country.

Fentanyl is so important to modern medicine it’s even listed on the WHO list of essential medications:

It is used in trans-dermal patches with dosages of 25, 50, 75, 100 mcg (micrograms)over a three-day period.

These are for people for whom other pain killers no longer work.

Eight broken ribs and a collar bone (thanks to one o’bastard’s kind) made traditional opioids, spinal block, useless until fentanyl was used in the IV.....

Yeah...but even worse, our illustrious “governor,” Jay (aka “Dope”) Inslee (who has done nothing his entire political career except get elected and reelected) goes on some liberal talk show and says Washington State has the best weed. Nice going, Jay-boy. What a pathetic human being you are - as long as WA gets money from drug taxes, anything is fair game. And how would you like it if your kids and/or grandkids wasted the rest of their lives sitting around smoking that great dope and eating Doritos? Kind of a waste of human life, no? And you want to be President of Vice President of the USA?

“However, taking hydrocodone with acetaminophen (e.g., as in Vicodin and other medications) can result in lethal effects occurring at lower doses.”

Hm...acetaminophen is an essential ingredient in some common forms of hydrocordone. So could you clarify your statement? Thanks.

#16. Don’t know where the truckers were going with the drugs but for the moment, their arrests and the drug seizure wipes out Colorado’s state song “Rocky Mountain High”. Nebraska now can advertise the state as “High without any mountains”.
