Yes, it's late May and it's still snowing in eastern Canada and more snow may fall this weekend in both Canada and the U.S.

An unusual out-of-season snowfall resulted in some unbelievable pictures in Newfoundland and New Brunswick this week. Although snow in May does happen here, this is a rare snowfall so late in May....

> Ah, the Union of Concerned Scientists.....you can become a Concerned Scientist as long as you have a credit card. <

Not true. To join the Union of Concerned Scientists you must have a PhD in science or engineering. And it must be from a recognized college.

(I kid, of course. You’re right. For just $5 anyone can become a Concerned Scientist. And what a bargain that is! For just $5 you’ll have the credentials to lecture the stupid deplorables on how to save the planet.)

Here in San Francisco, I literally can’t remember the last time the clock on the building where I work broke the 60 degree mark. Possibly, not in 2018 . . .

if it gets colder, it must be global warming.

“So please note that all weather everywhere is due to Global Warming.”

Their explanation is that this snow is a feedback.

There is also out-of-season snow like this in northern Eurasia.

Their problem is: It’s a NEGATIVE feedback, (causes cooling) and is a result of the melting of the arctic ice. The ice is merely relocating itself on northern lands, causing “long-term, large scale winter cooling” (Cohen 2013).

Their theory states that the sum of all feedbacks would be POSITIVE and multiply the agreed upon 1C warming by x3.

These negative feedbacks in the north (and those in Antarctica “Ice Gains Exceed Losses” Zwally2016) in addition to the absence of the much ballyhooed positive feedback, the tropical “hotspot”...

... means there won’t be much warming.

From what I’m hearing - and I’m no expert, just an old lady who is fascinated with the subject - they are expecting a colder winter, or one at least as cold as this past winter. Of course, it can vary, depending on if there are more sunspots.

Send it down to Texas. This summer is eerily starting out like the big heatwave and drought of 2011. That was one for the ages. There are still plenty of dead trees around from that one.

Or the summer of 1980 when it was 100 or over from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Forecast is 105 for June 1st here in North Texas.

Ah, yes. The summer of 1980. I remember it well. I remember it got to 116 in my hometown.
