I'm, not a legal scholar but I thought you only needed to subpoena a witness if there is concern they will not show up at a trial/hearing. If they show up willingly after being requested to, I don't know why they'd need to be subpoenaed. That would seem like a waste of time, resources etc...

That was what I was referencing in my post at #17. A subpoena obviates the need to volunteer. You are compelled.
I took Bongino's comments to mean there are some at the FBI who would welcome a subpoena for just that reason.

Seems to me if we talk about them in Watergate terms, maybe some folks will wake up to the gravity of the situation here.
My point was, I believe a witness need not be subpoenaed if they willing or voluntarily show up. It was in response to a poster saying, “Can’t testify voluntarily”. I don’t believe that is correct.
Btw, I get what the subpoena in this matter is all about, that way they’re covered for legal counsel in addition to protections from be fired. Subpoenas don’t take long, so we should find out pretty darn soon how many are being subpoenaed and what they know.
When subed by Congress, the government pays your legal fees and you are protected from retribution.
