They could do something like that, except, what if some of what they have to say is classified at some level. They sure don’t want to jump right into a felony. Perhaps they can redact, and/or summarize what they have to say without crossing those lines. Publish themselves, or, via sources like Wikileaks or Glenn Greenwald or Sarah Carter.

But would leaking innuendo to the media help them be heard, or would it take the steam out of their mission?

I think they have the right idea - they are saying the only way they can be protected from vindictive bosses and criminal prosecutors is if they are subpoenaed by Congress. And they made the point that going this route helps them financially - Congress pays their legal and travel costs. Otherwise, they’ll need some other kind of immunity from the AGs office. But in that case the DOJ or IG could do the interviews and then just bury the files. Congressional testimony is likely to be made public.

If the current appeal doesn’t work, they could hold a joint press conference where they say they have made it known to Mueller and to the IG that they have pertinent information but so far nobody has even asked them about it, and they believe this makes the investigations look farcical. If the American people want the whole truth then these facts need to be made public. Something like that.
