TheDC independently confirmed the veracity of the consultant’s position and access, and reviewed detailed transcripts of his Q&A with the special agent, who requested the arrangement due to internal dragnets and fear of vicious retribution.
These agents prefer to be subpoenaed to becoming an official government whistleblower, since they fear political and professional backlash, the former Trump administration official explained to TheDC.
The subpoena is preferred, he said, “because when you are subpoenaed, Congress then pays…for your legal counsel and the subpoena protects [the agent] from any organizational retaliation…. they are on their own as whistleblowers, they get no legal protection and there will be organizational retaliation against them.”
DiGenova — who along with his wife, Victoria Toensing, has represented government whistleblowers in the past — agreed, telling TheDC, “It’s an intelligent approach to the situation given the vindictive nature of the bureau under Comey and McCabe. I have no idea how to read Chris Wray, who is not a leader and who has disappeared from the public eye during this entire crisis. You know, he may be cleaning house but if he’s doing so, he’s doing it very quietly.”

So much for lives, fortunes, and sacred honor...
That may be taking what I said too far but I see why you could read it that way. It was the weakness of my analogy.
These FBI people have information. They are disturbed by what they have seen happen, by what they have learned. And they are annoyed that this information is not getting into the public domain.
So to this extent they are loyal to the country. But I still wouldn’t call it cowardice that they choose to remain silent at this time. They are, in effect, trying to get attention. They are agitating to get their information out. They are dismayed that (apparently) neither Mueller nor IG Horowitz or Huber or Congress has sought them out and they are saying “Hey, we have some information that will shed light on these open questions”. But speaking out voluntarily and without striking a deal with the government is where they draw the line. They want protection in return for their testimony.
And that is where I can’t say I blame them. These are people who know the system. they know that their testimony may have ramifications on their careers, their families, their children, their pensions. They might get threatened, like General Flynn, with personal bankruptcy and the threat of having their spouses and children dragged into it. Their kids may get rejected from colleges. They are asking for some protection, some cover, so that they don’t get thrown under the bus for coming forward. This seems pretty fair request to me under the circumstances.
One other point just to be clear: Their agitating to speak tells us that, so far anyway, there is not a serious effort to obtain “the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth” by any of the investigations. If there were such an effort these people would have already been interviewed by the SP, the IG or Congressional investigators.
So they should go ahead and start a website and post!!
Give away your, and your family’s, livelihood for a good cause then get back to us with your criticisms....

It was better back when it was the rule, and not the exception, that government agencies generally wanted to do the right thing. That’s no longer the case. The government can, will, and has already, ruined people who’ve done the right thing.
Since there IS a way around it, i.e., subpoena, it’s smart to use that option.

He’s just one victim. I’ve seen others being interviewed — much smaller “fish” — who have been financially wiped out by Mueller because of the legal bills they’ve had to incur. The man is a sadistic bully and glories in seeing these decent people suffer because of his actions.

After 8 years of Obama wars on whistleblowers, even the most hardcore patriot would consider whether martyrdom in this fashion would be an effective measure.
You got it! Unfortunately, with the system in place today that’s how things need to be done. You have to work with what you have, at any given time. Until that changes, these patriots deserve protection. There should never, ever be a situation where someone in government who wants to expose corruption and graft by our elected officials should have to lose anything.
Unfortunately, people like our founding fathers do not exist today. If they do they are in the minority.

Looking at the replies to your post, there are quite a few here who think that a government job is the only thing out there, as if there are no other jobs in the world.
I was a whistle blower in a very lucrative job I had years ago. II wasn’t believed and I ended up having to leave the job and move away, and take a 50% pay cut.
I guess counting the cost is too much to expect for many these days.
The pension-loving, mortgage-loving federales.are just cowards.
