Thanks To You RINO Paul Ryan Is Losing His Grip On The Speakership
Conservative HQ ^ | 22 May 18 | CHQ Staff

Posted on 05/22/2018 6:21:08 AM PDT by xzins

Two days after the news broke that over 100 conservative leaders had signed an open letter to principled limited government constitutional conservative Rep. Jim Jordan urging him – some might say demanding – that he run for Speaker of the House, Matt Drudge blared the headline “PAUL RYAN LOSING SPEAKERSHIP GRIP.”

The headline linked to a POLITICO article detailing how top House Republicans are privately questioning Ryan losing gripwhether retiring Speaker Paul Ryan can make it through Election Day. Click this link to add your name to the distinguished list of conservative leaders urging Jim Jordan to run for Speaker of the House.

But the most important headline was one directly below the banner linking to an article from the Weekly Standard: “MICK MULVANEY: RYAN SHOULD STEP DOWN...”

As Rush would say, “for those of you from Rio Linda” who need reminding who Mick Mulvaney is, he’s one of President Trump’s most trusted advisors, head of the Office of Management and Budget, AND, acting Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Mick Mulvaney is also a former Member of the House of Representatives and one of the few members who bridges the establishment Republican leadership and the principled limited government constitutional conservatives of the House Freedom Caucus.

The Weekly Standard’s senior writer John McCormack reports that on Sunday, White House budget director Mick Mulvaney strongly endorsed the idea that House speaker Paul Ryan should step down in order to trigger an election that would force House Democrats to vote for unpopular Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi.

Mulvaney’s comments came at a conference in Colorado sponsored by the Weekly Standard. Fox News host Bret Baier asked Mulvaney what he thought of the idea that Ryan should step down and allow his likely successor, Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, to become speaker this year.

"I've talked with Kevin about this privately but not as much publicly,” Mulvaney replied. “Wouldn't it be great to force a Democrat running in a tight race to have to put up or shut up about voting for Nancy Pelosi eight weeks before an election? That's a really, really good vote for us to force if we can figure out how to do it."

McCormack says the push for a shortened leadership race began quietly in the days after Ryan announced he would retire. Some members, like close McCarthy ally Tom Graves, asserted that a lame-duck speaker would have diminished power within the GOP conference and on the campaign trail. “We would have more success if there’s no ambiguity as to what the leadership structure might look like,” Graves told Politico.

Of course, the Republican establishment would like to make the contest for Speaker out to be a race between Nancy Pelosi and Kevin McCarthy – two decidedly non-conservative Californians – but that is hardly the case.

As the letter from conservative leaders to Jim Jordan pointed out, “The present House Republican leadership has proven that it’s part of “the Swamp.” Consequently, a vote to promote any member of today’s House GOP leadership is a vote for the Swamp. It’s time to Clean House.”

But more to the point about who should be the next Speaker, what about those House Republicans who are in tight races and will be forced to make the choice between the pro-amnesty, open borders Kevin McCarthy and the former Chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, fight to build the Wall now, defund Planned Parenthood no questions asked Jim Jordan?

If Republican congressional candidates want conservative votes this November, there must be no ambiguity about what the Republican agenda is and will be.

Click this link to add your name to the distinguished list of conservative leaders urging Jim Jordan to run for Speaker of the House.

Conservatives want a Speaker – and a House Republican Conference – that will keep promises, and Jim Jordan is the only candidate for Speaker who can be trusted to deliver on his promises.

What’s more, Jim Jordan is the only candidate for Speaker who will ignite the conservative grassroots with the fire necessary to turnout the vote for the 2018 midterm election and keep the House in Republican hands.

That is why we urge you to join CHQ Chairman Richard A. Viguerie and over 100 other conservative leaders who signed this open letter to Jim Jordan urging him to run for Speaker.

AN OPEN LETTER TO REP. JIM JORDAN

“CLEAN HOUSE”

May 19, 2018

Hon. Jim Jordan U.S. House of Representatives Washington, D.C. 20515

Dear Congressman Jordan:

The present House Republican leadership has proven that it’s part of “the Swamp.” Consequently, a vote to promote any member of today’s House GOP leadership is a vote for the Swamp. It’s time to Clean House.

There must be a real race for Speaker of the House. Now. No backroom deals. A real race, starting this spring, to make every incumbent and candidate commit on the record, as a campaign issue, whether they’ll vote to save the Swamp or drain it.

America needs you to declare yourself as a candidate for Speaker at once. We write to you on behalf of millions of Americans who want Congress to Drain the Swamp.

That’s borne out by an instructive new poll of likely voters – Republicans, Democrats and independents – conducted by John McLaughlin for the Ear to the Ground Listening Project. It shows that the majority agrees that the current congressional leadership has failed to “eliminate the influence of the network of DC-centric professional bureaucrats, media, and insider elites.” As many as 60% of those polled want to drain the Swamp.

Only 6% believe Republicans will keep their campaign promises, a key symptom of resistance to the Swamp. So, even if the current GOP leadership had an inspiring agenda, few believe they would work to implement it.

And that’s entirely understandable since the Republican leaders in Congress have gone along with the rest of the Swamp in sabotaging President Trump’s efforts to staff his administration, shrink government, build a wall, etc.

The startling poll results found, moreover, that 80% of likely voters from across the political spectrum believe that “American traditions of freedom and individual rights are being threatened by social movements, public bullying, and increasing political violence.”

Those threats, bullying, and violence are perpetrated by the extreme Left. But they are enabled by the wishy-washy, double-dealing present House leadership that, by not draining the Swamp, keeps the extremists funded and empowered. As the Ear to the Ground Project’s Anne Sorock observed, “Americans are concerned that their individual rights are threatened with the rise of the often-violent mass movements – and yet they say their representation doesn’t share that concern, and is even contributing to the ‘Swamp’ that is boxing them out of being heard.”

Of those polled, a large number self-identified as Trump voters and 72% of them said it is “important to drain the Swamp.” As you know, they have become a key part of the Republican Party’s base. If the House of Representatives continues to be led – or, more accurately, misled – by the existing GOP leadership going into the elections this fall, their sentiments predictably will cause such voters to stay home.

It is imperative for the sake of the country we love and our God-given freedoms that the American people be offered another choice. They must have an alternative in the People’s House to the leadership and largely identical agendas of Republican and Democratic Swamp creatures. It’s time to “clean House.”

You must take the lead. You have demonstrated over your years on Capitol Hill an unwavering commitment to our constitutional liberties and conservative principles of free market economics, budgetary discipline, traditional values and a strong national defense. You have worked to drain the Swamp, not fill it further. And we all know what the current House Republican leadership really thinks of you and those who share your beliefs. You have established a record of responsible leadership of the kind our times demand.

We petition you to declare yourself a candidate for Speaker of the House immediately and to begin offering a platform that will inspire and engage millions of Americans. What is needed now -- not just in this fall’s congressional elections, but for years to come – is the reliable promise that the people’s interest will govern, not the Swamp and its bureaucratic-industrial complex.

To those who say there is no Speaker’s race at the moment, we say that it’s already underway – in back rooms, behind closed doors, and aimed at preserving the Swamp and making it bigger. The Speaker’s race must be public. There will be no Republican Speaker in 2019 unless the GOP can appeal to those Americans in its own ranks, among independents and even many Democrats who voted for Donald Trump to drain the Swamp and for the current Republican-led House to help him do that. They will not tolerate the promotion of those now in House leadership who have utterly failed in this regard. And neither will we.

The present House Republican leadership has failed. It is part of the problem. You are the solution. This is your moment. We pray you will seize it, knowing that if you do, we will do everything we can to help you succeed.

Jim Jordan should announce this and then go on a media blitz tour

I never did understand why Ryan didn’t resign his Speakership when he announced his Retirement from the House. Once he came out with that announcement, he became a Lame Duck and should have stepped aside to let someone else take over.

Paul Ryan was “installed” in the first place, just like Pope Francis.

Exactly, he was asked to be the caretaker by the swamp people.

Jim Jordan is a very smart man. I suspect he’s lining up votes before he announces. He needs to win a majority of Republicans to represent the republicans, but the real danger is the 25 amnesty Rinos voting for the democrat for Speaker.

Would they actually go that far?

I’m not sure. Got any ideas on that one?

I agree. It’s really surprising. I would have expected him to campaign for McCarthy.

Is it chess? Does he actually oppose McCarthy or is he on McCarthy’s side but doesn’t want to injure him by showing McCarthy is dependent on him?

Supposedly, he was the only compromise candidate after Boehner.

Somewhat off topic, but unless and until the Republican leadership (party bosses) are replaced with real Americans, we are never going to have the party it should be.

Rove, et.al., should all be gone.

Jim Jordan is just outstanding, as far as I am concerned. I suppose I would like to see him speaker but if it comes at the cost of his outspokenness and “maverick” quality (to hijack Dirtbag McCain’s undeserved trademark) I would definitely prefer not.
