As tensions with Trump deepen, Europe wonders if America is lost for good

BERLIN - Since Jan. 20, 2017, European leaders have managed U.S. relations with one eye on the clock, anxiously counting down the hours until President Donald Trump’s term is up and hoping the core of the Western alliance isn’t too badly damaged in the meantime.

But as Trump’s aggressive rhetoric toward America’s closest allies has evolved into hostile action this spring, a new fear has swept European capitals.

Trump may not be an aberration that can be waited out, with his successor likely to push reset after four or eight years of fraught ties. Instead, the blend of unilateralism, nationalism and protectionism Trump embodies may be the new American normal.

“It is dawning on a number of European players that Trump may not be an outlier,” said Josef Janning, head of the Berlin office of the European Council on Foreign Relations. “More and more people are seeing it as a larger change in the United States.”

Even before Trump was elected, Europeans sensed that Washington’s traditional role as guarantor of the continent’s security and stability was slipping away, and that post-World War II ties were fading along with the generations that forged them....

Show me the Democrat who will defeat Trump in 2020 and explain to me how they will do it.

Is Europe lost for good? With the insane socialism and letting millions of savages into the country and suppressing free speech? Sweden falls first, then Britain.

Anxiously hoping that the Deep State will do the job it was paid to do, dammit!

As tensions with Trump deepen, Europe wonders if America is lost for good

And with their open borders policy and unlimited welfare state, Americans have been wondering if Europe is lost for good.

They’re allowing their dopey socialist countries to be watered down with lawless immigrants who terrorize the natives . . . then have the gall to wonder if WE’RE lost because we’re not the suicidal leftist wankers that they are.

Screw you, Europe. YOU’RE the ones who flushed your own cultures down the toilet.

"Oh man. America is lost for good. We're going to have to fight our own wars."

If America is "lost for good", why are they pissin' and moanin' about us pulling out of their Paris Climate Fiasco and Barry's Iran "deal" fiasco? It shouldn't matter now that we're "lost".

We’re just tired of parasites, that’s all.

And all European governments are parasites, as is their NATO.

Europe in May 25th is going to implement GDPR. It is an Internet control whereby the EU thinks it has dominance over Americans in America hosting websites.

The EU about to go to cyber war with America.

Yes, that occurred to me too. We could ask, is Europe lost?

We could turn this around, and ask if our European allies are going full force to socialism, unfettered immigration, etc that they are the ones who have fundamentally transformed as nations, and that is why relations are strained?

most of Europe is already a lost cause, since there’s so little movement, if any, towards any kind of quick repatriation of the IslamoNazi invaders

USA? such a big country.. Obama didn’t get the invasion job done...USA probably as a few more years, ,maybe, to send the Islamics home.. but not VERY long, they’re all over everywhere including the rifle range

Screw Europe. They are aligning with Islam and against Israel. Let them suffer the consequences. We - and to be fair the Russians - saved them twice. Third time is not a charm. Get our people out of there.

Possible exceptions: Poland and the Czech Republic. They seem to be loyal and away.

Impeached in 2019 after Republican voters turn against the GOP and stay home creating a Democrat win in both Houses; subsequently Convicted and Removed in the Senate a few moths later.

At that point in 2020, it does not matter who the Democrats put up; America turns to Communism and one party rule.

Even before Trump was elected, Europeans sensed that Washington’s traditional role as guarantor of the continent’s security and stability was slipping away...

Well, yes. 0bama wasn't very good at it and Trump doesn't intend to do it. Only five of the 28 members of NATO have lived up to their pledges in terms of military spending and all of this blather about an "independent" Europe ignores two things: they couldn't operate independently if they wanted to, especially if Britain does BREXIT, and they're so energy dependent on Russia that they couldn't continue it if they started. So what's even up for discussion here?

The days of "we believe in equality when it comes to an equal vote, but we don't believe in equality when it comes to contributions" are over. That European leaders supposedly experienced and sophisticated in matters diplomatic would fall for, and defend, the travesty that is the Iran "treaty" doesn't argue very strongly in favor of them standing up for themselves even if they are willing to develop the wherewithal. Blaming Trump for all this is flogging the messenger.

Britain is lost for good.

-First they Brexited. Although I support that, they have made European enemies. they could recover with a good trade deal with the US, however...

- They are involved in the spy ring created to impeach Trump. This will eliminate the trade deal possibilities. (Or they'll have to come begging)
