Trump to press GOP on changing Senate rules
The Hill ^ | May 13, 2018

Frustrated with what he calls Democratic obstruction, President Trump is expected to press Senate Republicans during a lunch Tuesday to change the rules to speed up consideration of his nominees for vacant court seats and executive posts.

It has taken an average of 84 days to confirm Trump’s nominees, far longer than for the four presidents who preceded him, according to the Partnership for Public Service, a non-partisan group that tracks confirmations.

"Waiting for approval of almost 300 nominations, worst in history. Democrats are doing everything possible to obstruct, all they know how to do," Trump tweeted Saturday.

Republicans on the Senate Rules Committee approved a measure last month to shorten the debate time for nominees on the floor, but the idea doesn’t have Democratic support.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has yet to say whether he will try to implement the change with a controversial party-line vote known as the nuclear option.

The Democrats aren’t the problem.

He’s sitting on it. I guess he’s trying to figure out if there’s anything in it for China and his Chamber of Commerce benefactors,

....controversial party-line vote known as the nuclear option....

Chuck has been nuclear for a year and a half. Mitch needs to step up, or step out.

Those Republicans who do not want to commit political suicide will not resist President Trump’s pressure.

McConnell is doing exactly what the GOP donors want. And that’s to wait out Trump and throw a bone once in a while.

If there is some overlap with theirs and Trumps interests, it will get done.

The Congress has become a non-entity insofar as doing the peoples business. They exist to get reelected and serve a deep pocketed donor class. They corrupt everything.

Mc Connell needs to get off the dime and do this.

All he needed to do ( past tense) was to signal to Dems that h would do this if they stalled these judges. Too late now, Dems won because Mitch is too weak. Now he has no leverage and MUST do this.

The GOPe acts as though Trump isn’t even in their own party. They have no interest in working with him.

“Mc Connell needs to get off the dime and do this.”

McConnell is hoping the GOP will loose the senate in November so that he won’t have to deal with it any longer. Go back to picking lint out if his navel...

Exactly right, it is the Bush League Republicans that are the problem.

Flake, Corker, Hatch, Heller, Alexander, Graham, McCain, Murkowsky, Hoeven, Rubio, Tillis, Burr, Lankford, Gardner, Cornyn, Cochran, Collins, Sasse, Kennedy, Shelby, Ernst, Blunt, McConnell, Wicker, Portman, Isakson, Johnson, Toomey, Rounds, Thune, Gaines, Barasso and Enzi are all Bush League Republicans hell bent on making America into North Mexico

“...want GOP leaders to trigger the nuclear option, whereby Senate rules would be effectively changed with a simple majority vote.”

“...a partisan rules change without Democratic votes would encourage them to run roughshod over the minority-party rights when they someday take back the chamber.”

Not a good idea. Yes, there are vacancies, yes, it’s causing trouble—but changing rules could lead to worse in the future. Don’t do it. There’s political ads running already on some of these “do nothings”— a perfect opportunity to clean up and get rid of them on their track record of sitting on their hands.

The 60 vote requirement should have been ditched years ago.

All that is needed is a simple recess of the Senate. Then all of the Presidents choices could be in place under recess appointments. That Mitch won’t do that proves him as the swamp critter he is.

“But muscling through the rules change without Democratic support isn’t sitting well with moderate Republicans such as Sens. Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) and Susan Collins (Maine), who aren’t on board with the plan.”

Maybe give McConnell a break, and he did vote to get things moving 2 weeks ago...the above WOMEN are the problem here.

You can bet the Democrats will change the rules if they get in charge..

The Republicans in the Senate need to wake up and get Mitch McConnell by the ears and rattle his old cage..he is getting to the age of senility and needs to be replaced...

If the Senate remains in Republicans control, THEY NEED TO ELECT A NEW LEADER..the current one is worthless...send him home Kentucky voters, or call him home, which ever works...

Their choice is clear: (1) Join Trump’s Party, (2) Become Democrats, (3) Commit Political Suicide.

Once again Trump has to drag Republicans kicking and screaming to do what needs to be done for the sake of the country. In my opinion, Trump ought to fire McConnell’s wife unless he gets off his duff and does his job.
