WASHINGTON — The junior lieutenant in charge of navigating the USS Fitzgerald when it collided with a commercial vessel pleaded guilty Tuesday to dereliction of duty and acknowledged her role in the deaths of seven sailors last year.
Lt. j.g. Sarah Coppock cried during her court-martial at the Washington Navy Yard. She was sentenced to forfeit half of her pay for three months – an additional month on top of the two she forfeited as her nonjudicial punishment. She also received a letter of reprimand.
“Not a day goes by where I haven’t thought about what I could have done differently,” she said. “There is nothing I can do now but take responsibility.”

Article 15 UCMJ is non-judicial punishment. That does not preclude a Court Martial. think of it this way. You are speeding down a highway, you hit a pedestrian. They give you a ticket for speeding, then charge you with a felony for hitting the pedestrian. Conviction at a General Court Martial is equal to a Federal felony Conviction.

I would guess hers is not the only career that is at a dead end. I lost a captain off my sub because he didn’t break radio silence on a ballistic missle sub patrol to report a near collision with a soviet fast attack boat. It cost him his future career advancing to flag level and my boat a trip to dry dock for a new screw (propeller fo novices).
I read the whole article, which was long, and in it she sounded just like Hillary. "I take full responsibility for this, but it was all those mean guys fault."

Bas lessons wasn’t the cause of the accident. Deteriorating command and socialism is what causes these types of incidents and they’ll be plenty more to the point they’ll just be acceptable.
