What would they do if the the Republican wins the popular vote but not the electoral one?

I disagree. Representatives cannot serve two masters.

They should give their Senate seats to whoever the Californians want because “Democrats”.

Whichever 2 teams get the most runs all season should be in the World Series. < /s >

“To the extent that commentators acknowledge the issue, the conventional view is that states have absolute discretion to appoint their delegates in any manner they see fit...

...Disagreeing with this conventional wisdom, this Article concludes that the states lack the power to appoint their presidential electors on the basis of votes of citizens outside the state’s jurisdiction and, therefore, states are without authority to adopt the NPVC.”

Al Gore Junior’s highly announced “popular vote” win was 0.51% of the vote, well within the margin of error and it did not include all ballots (it didn’t even have the contested but approved military ballots in Florida).

We could still be recounting the 2000 election if it was strictly the popular vote.

Additionally, Al Gore’s team got some voters to not vote for GW Bush (unclear if they stayed home, left that part of the ballot blank, or voted third party or for Al) because of the election eve “October Surprise” release of news about GW Bush’s decades old DWI arrest.

Everyone agrees that it was a measurable dip in Bush’s vote total (and with 0.51% of the vote, you can take that as evidence Al didn’t have it sewn up).

“Connecticut Dems just took away the voting power of CT residents, and gave it to Illegal non-Citizens in California.”

“The agreement goes into effect once states representing at least 270 electoral votes — the number needed for a candidate to win the presidency — signs the compact. “

They’re just making an empty gesture.

” What the hell is wrong with these people???”

They’re leftards. Boy, are they lucky this is an empty gesture. Guess who’ll be winning the national popular vote, AND the electoral college in 2020? Hint: It’ll look like Reagan vs. Mondale all over again.

I am surprised they haven’t proposed something like this before. The last 2 times the “official” popular vote loser won by electoral vote, the Dems lost. They would have to get a few pink or tossup states to join the movement for it to do any good for them. This is a lot easier than amending the Constitution.

IS it just me? Or can I see this plan backfiring spectactularly on the Democrats??

It's just not you.

I see President Trump winning big in 2020.

Connecticut just handed its electoral votes to President Trump in 2020. I don't think that was the intent of this law.

The Democrat Thug Party hard at work to destroy Constitutional Representation. That’s a dangerous game to play in my opinion.

“Wait, states can overrule their voters AFTER an election is over? Is this even legal?”

States with a winner take all status already overrule their voters. Each Congressional District has one electoral vote. With a winner take all status all electoral votes go to the candidate who wins the statewide vote. Congressional Districts which voted for the other candidate are overruled.

We really need an amendment that requires that electoral votes be assigned by the vote in each Congressional District. The two votes per Senator could be assigned by the legislature of each state. go to popular vote.

Example: California's ballots would have been split between Clinton and Trump, not all assigned per statewide popular vote, where voter fraud in large urban areas swing states.

Dems in large urban areas could no longer wing states to the Dems by concentrating their efforts in these areas with the result of more people voting that eligible to vote, and false write in ballots.

This seems like a can’t lose for Democrats as they nearly always win the popular vote. Now, maybe this will light a fire in red and purple states to push through and pass voter ID laws.

Can other states decide to give the electoral votes to the loser of the popular vote? Yet, others to the richest person in the race. How about the only man in the race, or the only Republican? I guess they just don’t see what can go wrong... Trump now has a legitimate change of carrying a bunch of Dem states by racking up a huge lead in Texas

Connecticut is an insane asylum for political psychopaths and communists. Charlie Manson wanted to be buried there, and with good reason.

Malloy is insane. Blumenthal is insane. Even Whitehouse is insane (I think he’s from the next door insane asylum Rhode Island, but what the hell.

Crazier than bats in a barrel of 100% whiskey.
