Most states have an equivalent to Federal Rule 11 - if a lawyer files a suit that he knows to be abusive or meritless, the court can sock both the client AND the lawyer for penalties, attorney fees, etc.

I only Rule 11'd one attorney and his client in my misspent legal career. Got all my client's attorney fees paid, and it was a joint judgment against the client AND the attorney.

He richly deserved it. He was a bad actor who made a habit of filing worthless lawsuits and bludgeoning the opposition with abusive discovery to try to extort a settlement. He got a few nasty words on the side from the judge as well.

Didn’t Clockboy and his dad get slapped with fees for their bogus suit in Texas?
