New York moves to ban plastic bags

Governor Andrew Cuomo plans to ban single-use plastic bags, though he previously blocked a 2017 plan to charge New York City shoppers 5-cents for paper and plastic bags at stores.

He introduced a bill Monday that would ban plastic carryout bags from any point of sale in the state. Garment bags, trash bags and bags used to wrap food such as fruit and sliced meats would be exempt from the bill. If passed, it would go into effect on New Year's Day of 2019.

Better get to crocheting your old plastic bags into new totes. Of course, it'll take a hundred old bags to make one new one. Or use your old dog food bags if you want every dog in the neighborhood following you home. Or flies following you home with the juice and raisin boxes.

Wanna bet Cuomo or his relatives get in on the ground floor and cheap stocks with green tote bags?

Beat me to it.

I go through all our plastic bags to separate the ones with holes for the small trash cans and those without holes for the kitty litter. That is if they make it into the house without ripping and dumping the original contents. They’re so thin now days.

Can I still get my groceries in plastic bags if I promise to reuse them for something at home? I see they are only banning single use bags.

A woman in front of me at the grocery checkout had the nastiest reusable bags. I put my groceries back in the cart and went to another checkout. Sure, all the cashiers have dirty hands but geez.

“NONE of the top 10 rivers polluting the oceans with plastic are in this hemisphere.”

Thanks for the information.

I live near the Pacific Ocean, near a wildlife rescue facility. Our community is serious about protecting the environment.

I am concerned with conditions near home, not all around the globe in shit holes.

California did this ban a while ago it was the best thing ever. Now they sell me bags without asking and I have to stand in the return line to get my few pennies back.

Yes, I return the bags they sell me. Freaking scam

Hey New York, we got this crap in California. Here, we have to either bring our own bags or pay 10 cents a bag for re-usable plastic bags. When Brown and his cronies passed this bill, the grocers got a proposition of the ballot to reverse it. Unfortunately, the a-hole voters in CA voted down the proposition.

Coming next will be the outlawing of plastic straws. I am waiting for a law limiting toilet paper usage to three sheets per No. 2.

Pretty much nothing degrades in a legally run landfill.

What are they going to use to pickup their dog’s poop.
Their left hand?

Well banning guns didn’t work, let them try that. Might work.

I think we need to make a list of things the Dems don’t want to ban. That would be homos and weed, everything else is banned.

"Washing reusable bags pretty much destroys bacteria and viruses, but not many people do that regularly (myself included)

Why waste good water, soap and electricity to clean plastic bags?

As long as Amazon is in business, CA and NY can go stuff it. https://www.amazon.com/TashiBox-Thank-Bags-Reusable-Grocery/dp/B01GNWA6JI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1524630944&sr=8-1&keywords=single+use+plastic+bags

Truth. Ya gotta think it was designed that way for some reason.
