CDC unpublished study: Over 2 million defensive gun uses every year

Every year, Americans use guns to defend themselves more than 2 million times, according to an unpublished study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that focused on data gathered in 1996, 1997 and 1998.

The findings show that use of guns for self-defense happens more frequently than criminal use of firearms.

During his Monday broadcast, talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh said “it’s typical” that the CDC didn’t go public with the eye-opening findings.

“The CDC figures this does not further the leftist agenda,” Limbaugh said, “so they keep it secret, but it has been uncovered.”

Since the 1990s, Florida State University criminologist Gary Kleck and partner Marc Gertz have claimed as many as 2.2 million Americans use firearms to defend themselves every year. While critics have claimed Kleck’s estimates were too high, he has frequently stated that they provide no scientific evidence to counter his findings.

Now it’s revealed that the unpublished CDC study in the 1990s found 2.46 million defensive gun uses, or DGUs, per year.

Kleck provides the following summary of the CDC findings:

Hmmm. Twenty year old data gathered and NOT disseminated because the cdc isn't supposed to do these studies. We've all heard and seen these numbers by Kleck for years. So, here it is again. Anyone think it's more than that today?

LOL! Probably, well, I guess I’m not sure when the ruling for the cdc to NOT study firearms issues was put in place so maybe it wasn’t published due to that or as you said, to hide the troof. Lazy this morning so if somebody knows when that ruling was put in place, maybe they’ll post it.

CDC was prohibited from recommending gun control. That appears to have had a “chilling effect.” But why?

CDC obviously conducted the study and should have published their findings. That they did not is suggestive. Has the Principal Investigator spoken?

The study is flawed. While it noted several limitations...the variation in death certificate data is critical. That alone could account for the state outcomes.

“Inequality” appears to an odd interpretation of these findings. Suggests Social Justice is the lens used to view the findings.

2 million is nothing compared to the number of crimes that NEVER take place due to an armed populace.

Or, to fight your way back to the rifle you should not have put down in the first place.
