Former NFL kicker Jay Feely says a photo of him holding a pistol while standing between his daughter and her prom date was intended to be a joke. Feely posted the photo on Twitter Saturday. The photo shows him standing with his arm around his daughter and with the gun in his other hand, next to his daughter's date.
But, some people thought he crossed a line.
On Sunday, Feely, now a commentator for CBS, wrote that the couple, who have dated for over a year, knew he was joking.
He says he takes gun safety seriously and the gun was not loaded. He says he did not intend to be "insensitive" to the gun control issue.

Some people "thought"???
Those "people" are incapable of thinking.
The only people who are going to complain about that picture are the folks who don’t think anyone should own a gun in the first place, don’t apologize to the idiots.
I think that was very funny. No apologies required.
Demonizing guns so they can more easily take them away from us.
“But, some people thought he crossed a line.”
We really need to revisit this notion that everyone has a right to his opinion.
It is a riff on the classic joke about Dad cleaning his gun when he meets the boyfriend for the first time with “friendly” advice such as “be home on time with her in the same condition as she left.”
God, people are so EASILY triggered (pun 1/2 intentional).
Someone tell this dad please STOP capitulating by apologizing!
Article also doesn’t say what “line”
Opinions are like a__holes, everybody’s got one.
The joke works better with an antique double barrel shot gun and a big clock
NEVER apologize. It never works and just gives the left a taste for blood.
When America loses her sense of humor, we have lost America... a shotgun over the dads shoulder might have been funnier... less creepy.
Hes retired
Why should he care what ignorant people think?
Fark them if they dont get the joke.
Doesn’t he know you can’t joke around anymore? :-)
Hmmm ... He should certainly not cross the firing line while the range is hot.
Who cares about the gun safety issue, The real issue is that UGLY white belt! My dad had a couple of those in the 70s. LOL
In this politically correct world , jokes are not allowed.
Or at least, jokes on many subjects are not allowed. You can joke about Trump and deplorables, etc. But never joke about any sacred cows to leftists.
And never question double standards. For example, Paula Deen said the dreaded N word and was forced out of TV shows and book deals. She lost her career.
But some black comedian calls Obama “my nigger” at a White House function when Obama was president, but that was ok.
I agree. The joke would have been more obvious.
I think it was funny too and the look on the daughter’s face was priceless. You can tell she and her father really have a strong loving relationship.
