Twenty-nine-year-old James Shaw Jr. has been identified as the “hero” who wrestled a rifle away from alleged Waffle House gunman Travis Reinking. Reinking allegedly opened fire in an Antioch, Tennessee, Waffle House Sunday at 3:25 a.m. while wearing nothing but a green jacket. A number of people were injured in the attack and four persons were killed.
The attack ended when Shaw Jr. took away the rifle Reinking was allegedly using in the attack.
Daily Mail reports that Shaw Jr. “was grazed by a bullet and treated for a minor gunshot wound on his elbow.” He also “severely burned” his hands when grabbing the hot barrel of the rifle.
Shaw Jr. was treated at the hospital and released.
When described as a “hero” Shaw Jr. demurred, saying he was just looking for a means of escape. He told the Tennessean, “I don’t really know when everyone said that (of being a hero), it feels selfish. I was just trying to get myself out. I saw the opportunity and pretty much took it.”

Not trying to diminish the gallant action of Mr. James Shaw Jr., but if the hero had been a white male Trump supporting TEA Party guy, down the memory hole it would all go.

Waffle House is a gun free zone.
Yes - our trainer told us that (Run, Hide, Fight). But you have to assess the venue. A classroom and maybe even a Waffle House is a trap and pretty much eliminates the run option. If you choose to hide you need to be pretty damned sure you’re well-hidden. Under a desk or a table won’t cut it. But I agree - if it is possible then run like hell.

I encountered a similar situation almost 25 years ago and I charged the shooter and took away his weapon. I’ve still got the scars but no one was injured or killed as the shooter intended to kill a lot of people. Welcome to the fraternity, Mr. Shaw.
Nope and that’s why we don’t beat these things. Even if they carry, it seems the run and hide like they did in Philadelphia Florida and other places too. We need carriers who will use it to stop the gunman or what’s the use?

True. Also, if Shaw had shot the perp with a concealed-carry pistol, and announced that he was an NRA member, the story would have been spiked. The MSM would have regarded Shaw as an embarrassment, not a hero.
