Up to 95 per cent of plastic polluting the world’s oceans pours in from just ten rivers, according to new research.

The top 10 rivers – eight of which are in Asia – accounted for so much plastic because of the mismanagement of waste.

About five trillion pounds is floating in the sea, and targeting the major sources – such as the Yangtze and the Ganges – could almost halve it, scientists claim.

Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt flew in coach-class seats on at least two trips home to Oklahoma when taxpayers weren’t footing the bill, despite claims he needed to travel in first class at government expense because of security threats.

Funny...when we hear the idiot talking heads telling us about pollution, global warming climate change we need look no further than these same countries where we are funneling American tax dollars to. These criminal dictators fill their pockets laugh and change nothing and hold no one responsible. What we get are imposters like the a##clown dumping regulation upon regulation tightening the noose around our necks, We are the fools!

The source is population, not land mass.

Trump pulled out of the Paris Accord and all the Asians and Africans threw the plastic in the rivers in anger.

“The top 10 rivers - eight of which are in Asia”

Amazing that the author couldn’t be bothered with stating where the other two are, instead leaving the reader to likely conclude that USA is the unnamed guilty party, an impression which would likely remain even after seeing the map a little later in the article.

Nope, couldn’t add “, and two in Africa”. Had to leave room to imply Western guilt.

Exactly what I long suspected. Western media frequently show this horrendous mess in the Pacific ocean and imply, or come right out, and try to guilt the U.S. into believing that WE are the culprits. Usually such lamenting articles show the mass of plastic refuse and then immediately discuss how many plastic water bottles the U.S. consumes, suggesting we are responsible.

The fact of the matter is that the U.S. recycles a significant portion of our plastic waste or otherwise properly dispose of it. It is the Asian countries and other third-world countries who pollute with reckless abandon. Ever go to almost any third-world country? Almost all of them have trash all along every street with garbage piles everywhere.

Of course you were. Every idiot know that straws are not the major contributor to pollution. It’s glitter.

Sheesh. get with the program.

Good point, it was thinking the area that the river drains. However, it would be more of a function of the BILLIONS of people dumping crap into those rivers.

I have a friend who travels weekly. He has to carry a lot of sample materials with him that must be checked. The bag weighs about 70 lbs.

In some cases, the cost to check a 70 lb. bag on most airlines is pretty close to the cost differential to switch up to First Class.

I don’t begrudge some luxuries for people who have to travel frequently and far.

I’m dreading my 6:30 am flight from Baltimore to Portland next Tuesday. “Moooooo”

The US has been shipping recyclables to China until recently, when China refused to accept recyclables that were not clean. In short, at least the western US doesn’t recycle anymore - it goes to the landfill for the time being. Don’t know about the rest of the US, or when recycling begins again in earnest.

The Process -- 1) GET IT: Biddle receives his plastic primarily from contracted recycling plants. 2) GRIND IT: The source material is shredded, cleaned, and ground into bits the size of confetti. 3) PROCESS IT: Biddle divides his materials by type of plastic and by color before reselling them as pellets for use in finished goods. Yeah, but that will stop when the “glass-ears” in he “Him-all-yas” start melting and the flow exceeds the ability to bathe in the Ganges. I saw it on the internet so it must be true.
