Democratic lawmakers want to take the state's tight gun control laws and expand them outside of New Jersey's borders.
There's new legislation that would ban state-sponsored travel to any states that don't require their residents to obtain a permits before they purchase a firearm.
The goal is to send a message to the National Rifle Association, said State Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg, the bill's sponsor.
"Fighting the NRA on the basis logic and rational thinking has not worked," Weinberg, D-Bergen, said. "So I think the thing that might work is fighting them with their pocketbook."

Hollow point and "dum dum"
Legal to buy. Legal to use.
Legal only in exempt areas. These include your home, a range, a gun shop/smith or to hunt.
Transportation of hollow points can only occur between a gun shop, a range/hunt and your home. There is a funny quirk in the law that prevents you from transporting hollow points from one home(i.e. exempt location) and another home(another exempt location) or property owned by you. In those circumstances you must first travel to a range, then you can proceed to the other home.
All other instances are strictly illegal. Just getting caught with a single .22 rimfire you accidentally left in your vehicle is a serious crime.
Sounds like Mexico.
Maybe some of those states should just refuse to take any more of New Jerseys garbage and hazardous waste.

I think this is a good idea no matter what. I think it is criminal that NJ’s wastes of any kind should be buried in PA. I think it is criminal.

"Confusing" is not on the list of positive attributes in traffic design.
They used to ship hazardous waste clear to northern Indiana where I used live. Got some from New York too
My Father was Born in New Jersey.
He told me the Union Guys would go out on Election Day and hand out $5 Bills if you promised to Vote for the Democrat.
That was when $5 was a whole lot of money.
Why ban state sponsored travel to New Jersey?
Just ban any state sponsored person from New Jersey traveling to your state.
Your state official people can go where ever they want (that’s freedom), their state official people are banned from your state.
It’s only fair that a state has the right to protect it’s self from a lethal, disease causing organism.

NJ is so broke due to underfunded government employee pension plans they shouldn’t be leaving the state for anything remotely optional. This is pure virtue signaling nonsense.

Which has been so abused that the current meaning is that Congress has the power to regulate ANYTHING that even might cross a state line.

I won’t argue with you. I take a very cautious approach to such things. At the end of the day, it is going to come down to a Trooper or a local cop on the side of the road. At that point, I want every single factor operating in my favor.
We have all seen too many stories about innocent people in New Jersey ensnared by the ridiculous transport rules. Given the ambiguity in the rules and the crusading attitude of some police and prosecutors, the rational course, IMHO, it to do everything one can to avoid trouble.
Since my guns are going to be inaccessible to me while I am in the vehicle, it is very little additional trouble to eliminate all ambiguity and discretion by taking a belt-and-suspenders approach to this problem. I don’t want to have to spend ten years in prison arguing over the definition of “securely tied”.
I absolutely agree with you. Most cops on the side of the road equate the firearms purchaser ID with an Owners ID and would likely turn someone loose if they provide it versus someone who didn't have it. That said, if you are transporting within the exemptions is it not required. It is required to buy long guns and ammunition that can be used in handguns. You can buy a handgun with a permit to purchase a pistol and not even check the box to obtain the Purchaser ID at the same time.
Would locks go towards intention? Yes. All of the things you said cannot hurt. I suggest that people who move to NJ get their purchaser ID but it is not a requirement to own or transporting their NJ legal firearms that were purchased in other jurisdictions or inherited. Registration in NJ is voluntary for guns purchased elsewhere and I never recommend anyone actually do it. Handguns purchased in NJ are registered on the Pistol Permit.
There is also no duty to inform in NJ. Don't lie to an officer but don't volunteer it either and avoid the issue entirely. It's also a good idea not to draw attention to yourself if you're transporting firearms.
I fully admit to being a little over-the-top.

On that last note, as the wife and I were going over the DMB on the way out of NJ and passed the “Welcome to Delaware” sign, we had an interesting conversation:
I casually remarked to her that, “Hey, we’re out of Jersey...now you don’t have to worry about bailing me out of jail anymore.” She, of course, was surprised, and asked me why.
So I explained the NJ “Assault Weapon Ban” and its provisions against magazines of over 15 rounds. She asked how many of them I had.
“Well, sitting 18 inches behind my ass, there are about 200 years’ worth in Rahway State Prison.” She turned white as a sheet, and said nothing for about 30 seconds (which is VERY uncharacteristic of her). Then she said, “They don’t have laws like that in Texas, do they.”
“Nope. Texas is in America.”
The most redeeming thing about New Jersey is it’s a long way from where I live.
It’s a long way from Texas.
As a bonus, it is also upwind.
Win/Win
