Navy Vessels, B-1s Obliterate 3 Syrian Targets in Strike

...The attack involved ships, aircraft and one submarine operating from the Eastern Mediterranean, the Red Sea, and the Northern Arabian Sea against three targets -- one on the outskirts of Damascus and two others 90 miles to the north.

A total of 76 missiles -- 59 Tomahawk Land Attack Missiles (TLAMS) and 19 Joint Air to Surface Stand-Off Missiles-Extended Range (JASSM-ER) were fired at the sprawling Barzah Research and Development Center near Damascus, Marine Lt. Gen. Kenneth McKenzie, the Joint Staff Director, said at a Pentagon briefing.

At the same precise time, the Hims-Shinsar chemical weapons storage facility near Homs, about 90 miles north of Damascus, was hit with a total of 22 weapons -- nine Tomahawks, eight British Storm Shadow missiles, three French Naval Cruise Missiles and two French SCALP land attack cruise missiles, McKenzie said.

The third target, the Hims--Shinsar chemical weapons bunker facility also near Homs, was hit with seven French SCALP missiles, McKenzie said.

In the Red Sea, the Ticonderoga-class cruiser Monterey fired 30 Tomahawks and the Arleigh

Burke-class destroyer Laboon fired seven TLAMs.

In the North Arabian Sea, the Arleigh Burke- class destroyer Higgins fired 23 TLAMS, McKenzie said.

In the eastern Mediterranean, the French frigate Languedoc fired three naval versions of the SCALP missile and the Virginia-class submarine John Warner fired six TLAMs.

In the air, two B-1B Lancer Bombers fired 19 JASSMs. Britain flew a combination of Tornado and Typhoon fighters to launch eight Storm Shadow missiles. France flew a combination of Rafale and Mirage fighters to launch a total of nine SCALP missiles.

The strike represented the the first employment of JASSM-ER weapons in combat.

...The JASSM-Extended Range has a higher survivability rate due to it its low-observable technology incorporated into the long-range, conventional air-to-ground precision-guided missile.

This really should be classified at least Confidential for another year...

Particularly since the matching satellite BDA photos are posted on the Daily Mail

It seems like an awful lot of missiles were fired to destroy a small number of targets. At the Him Shinshar Chemical Weapons Bunker it looks like the target was, as the name suggests, an underground bunker so it may have required multiple sequenced hits.

I will be pragmatic and neutral and state that these questions should be asked to this administration. I can understand both sides of this argument. Right and wrong can be so subjective. I will say Syria takes away from the agenda at home and to a lessor extent gives more reason for the left to b*tch and moan i.e. more reason to think they can impeach.

We never learn from our founder’s words of wisdom:
“Avoid foreign entanglements” -

https://sofrep.com/63764/us-special-forces-sabotage-white-house-policy-gone-disastrously-wrong-with-covert-ops-in-syria/

Especially since we have a 21 Trillion dollar National Debt, and our borders are a dangerous sieve for invaders, far more threat than Syria is.

The moral authority is using WMD against international law.

But you knew that...

Just after the Friday markets attack occurred a mere day before Chemical Weapon inspectors were to arrive and conduct investigation of “Chlorine” gas attack on civilians.
Conveniently site of gas attack and related munitions were destroyed by the $200 Million dollar missile attack.

Deadly theatre in more ways than one.

MarchonDC -

You make some persuasive points, but good luck arguing with this crowd.

Donald Trump ran as a peace candidate and that is one of the main reasons I voted for him. In his major foreign policy speech in April 2016 he said "unlike other candidates for the presidency, war and aggression will not be my first instinct." It would seem that launching this Syrian attack just before the investigation of the chemical attack was to occur violates that promise.

In the same speech Trump repeatedly stated that every aspect of his foreign policy would be based on the principle of America First. How does this attack conform to that principle regardless of who used the chemical weapons?

I commend you for your persistence in pressing your point.

Hey Fstick,
Go tell our dead servicemen’s parents and loved ones just how great you think it is to send them in harm’s way where we have no legitimate reason to be in the first place, as President Trump repeatedly said not so long ago.
Why don’t you go there or send your kid?

Donald Trump ran as a peace candidate

George W Bush ran as an education candidate. That went out the window on September 11, 2001.
