Embers from barbecue pit ignite string of Lago Vista grass, brush fires

Four grass and brush fires that broke out in Lago Vista Saturday afternoon are believed to have been caused by embers flying out of a barbecue pit being hauled by a truck, said an official with Travis County ESD No. 1. Firefighters managed to put out all of the fires that sprung up along Farm to Market 1431. They said three of them were minor but the fourth was fairly significant. With winds gusting at 20 miles per hour and humidity at just 20 percent, fire officials said these are very dangerous conditions and that the public needs to take extra precaution to prevent fires that could be even worse. “We are in a very volatile situation right now,” said ESD No. 1 Fire Chief Donnie Norman. “If the embers had blown out closer to a neighborhood, it could have been a disaster.”

It does not take much of a loss of points in average IQ to cause real problems for a society that depends on intelligence and sound judgement to persevere.

Tri-county fire of Labor Day 2011 started from a BBQ. 22,000 acres, homes and evacuations later it was finally out.

Try to find who started it. Try to find who was prosecuted. Nobody.

Try to find who the arsonist kids were who started fires during the big fire. You will find nobody.

We know where it started but not who.

Whoever was driving that truck which hauled a lit up BBQ grill has got some ‘splainin’ to do.
They should also bring their checkbook.

they dont really prosecute these things aggressively anyway, consider this example. This article sure sugar coats it compared to witness testimony : http://www.oregonlive.com/wildfires/index.ssf/2017/11/mortified_mom_of_teen_charged_in_eagle_creek_fire_speaks_this_is_a_trauma_for_him.html

Same thing happened in Kansas a few years ago, left grass fires along the road for miles. No significant damage but he was the talk of the Town.

My 17 million + embers are just sitting there quietly in their wallet. I’d be overjoyed if they ignite.

They should. My neighbors burn when there is a burn ban and burn ban or not nobody should be so stupid as to burn in a gale force wind as so many do.
