“Friday the 13th. Somehow that was appropriate.”

Very true! Yep - he was quite the entertainer. Some of it was real, some of it could have been real, and some of it was fake - but told in such a way that it just maybe - maybe - be real.

I recall he had a caller over a series of days/weeks that would “call” (probably a pro voice actor type?) in about the alien he had captured (up on a mountain hike with his dog in the PNW??), and it died. So he kept it in the freezer in his garage. And then of course it wasn’t dead, and just dormant.

I think after numerous days and weeks of this it finally ended with something about the black Suburban’s outside his home in the suburbs of Everett, Washington, with the call going dead in mid-sentence.

True story: Wife and I were driving late at night through Eastern Oregon to Reno for a fair many years back. I told here to turn on the radio to keep us awake. There was a program on and the host was talking about reports of a strange blood sucking creature called a Chupacabra. There were reports of said creature around a little town called Paisley, Oregon. I looked up from the roadway and saw a sign, Paisley—7 miles.

I told my wife to turn up the radio and lock the doors. We were Art Bell fans ever since, not missing a night. We would go to sleep listening to Art. What a ride it was.

Did we believe all the guests. Ha! Not hardly, but it was entertaining and Art had a great voice and good interview style, letting the guest tell the story.

He was a great in Radio and though gone from the airwaves these past few years, he will be missed. Tonight I think I will listen to the saga of Mel’s Hole.

A friend of mine, an ex-broadcaster knew him. Said he was always depressed as hell.

Ah, yes, anbd there were photos to go along with the story. Was it real? Who cares, it was entertaining. Jonathan Richman I think is the guest you were referencing. Yup, he grabbed a log and bashed the alien in the head and somehow drug it to his jeep and took it home and loaded it into his freezer. Happened somewhere around Portland I think. The guy was supposedly a doctor of sorts, or maybe worked in a hospital. he supposedly ended up being chased by the authorities, was shot and managed to escape and ended up losing everything..his home, job etc...

In recent years, there was some talk about someone “trying to get” Bell, which explained his on-and-off return to the airwaves.

It was never clear if this was real or not, but no doubt his passing will fuel that speculation.

Driving home from work at midnite. I heard everything. The best show I ever listened to was the one a guy flying a small plane flew over Area 51. RIP friend. Thanks for your he memories.

I listened to him a lot from about 2002 to 2005, before the major troubles in his life and the constant retiring/unretiring from his show. Major Ed Dames was a frequency guest, talking about remote viewing and the disasters that were coming in the near future. In fact, since it’s 2018, we should now all either be dead or living underground.

That’s the one I posted a link to in #21. At the time I was blown away by it.

I just clicked onto that show. I just started it - and it looks to be just one long show. I thought for sure it went on over a long period of time! Like a 15 minute call one day, and the following week another call. “Oh my god! That dead alien I was telling you about? It isn’t dead!!”

Here’s an Art Bell spooky for you. I clicked on the show on youtube from September 18, 2013. News from around the world.

“So that gas attack in Beirut? It now looks like the rocket trajectory of the Sarin gas nerve agent was from Government positions - not the rebels.”

The more things change, the more things stay the same.

My first experience with Art was up late one night in 1994, turned on the radio and here was this guy talking about Nicola Tesla and weather machines. I was hooked.

After having listened to Art for a bit, we were camping in Washington State and after spending the evening sitting around the campfire wondering if a Bigfoot might get us, we got up the next morning, drove to an overlook in Diablo Canyon and I read the signs they had up about what all that place was known for and I screamed for my sister, "Jen, get over here! Read this! OMG!!" It detailed that the area was known for being the home of Sasquatch, THE Sasquatch.

It was more fun than a scary movie. (Thank you, Art.)

My least favorite subject is extra-terrestrials and UFOs, but I would still listen to his shows. When Noory does it I just have to switch the station.

Yes, that is the guy. Jonathan Reed. Art interviewed him before the Dark Matter show some years earlier. I have the dark matter show in my computer somewhere and will have to listen to it again.

Best radio listening fun I’ve every had. “The hanger doors opening. Art telling him to get away. The whole thing was great”. The suspense rivaled Hicthcock. I truly feel sorry for those that didn’t get to enjoy him.

Art used to play a certain Bigfoot scream recording that gave me the chills...He would cue up a lot. A powerful guttural scream that echoed through the woods. Always set my hair on end.

I sure will miss him on my late night long drives on the highway. Strange show of mostly nonsense, but funny when thinking back about it. You got to be a master to make a quality show out of such surealism.

I will call him the Salvador Dali of Radio talk show

He was so fun to listen to when i worked at night. I enjoyed how no matter how outlandish his guest assertion was, he played it completely straight and asked them questions.
