A Pennsylvanian school district has given its teachers baseball bats in the fight against school shooters.
All 500 teachers of Millcreek School District near Erie got a 16in (41cm) bat in the wake of the Parkland, Florida high school attack in February.
Though the bats are largely symbolic, Superintendent William Hall said, they are there as a "last resort".
"Unfortunately, we're in a day and age where one might need to use them to protect ourselves and our kids."
The superintendent said the aim was to have a "consistent tool" for every teacher in every classroom.

God forbid teachers have guns when shooting begins in schools. Someone could be seriously injured if they shoot.
We’ve kept a regular size bat by the front and back door for years. it would be
effective in an emergency situation, and readily available.
I don’t know what that little bat is, is that considered a “billy club”...I don’t think so.
I think the ideal situation, if they’re not going to allow armed teachers, would to give each teacher a taser.
There was a humorous bit in an NCIS episode this year where Gibbs discovered how to use a taser. A teacher armed with a taser at least wouldn’t need to be a foot in front of the guy before he/she hit him.
It looks like those miniature Louisville Slugger souvenir bats that the ballparks sell in the gift shops. IOW, a toy.
Some of my peers would, in fact, be more dangerous than the perp.
Back in the old days of the early 70’s, we went to the Texas Rangers game on bat night. We received a full sized little league bat for attending. I have it around here somewhere. Sometime after that they went to the mini bat.

I can see this now. Millcreek Twsp. Vs Schuykill Valley. Schuykill throws river rocks at Millcreek, Millcreek hits it with a bat and kills the pitcher. Next inning, Schuykill throws a river rock at the next Millcreek batter and throws high and inside. Kills the batter. Everything OK, no guns used.

The first teacher who puts a dent in one of the little darlings skulls with one is gonna be in trouble.
Give all teachers who want one an AR-15 carbine. If they are okay with a 16” defensive weapon, why not a modern sporting rifle with a barrel of exactly the length they have chosen?
