Popular gay dating app Grindr is reportedly sharing the HIV statuses of its users with third parties. According to a report from BuzzFeed News, Grindr “has been providing its users’ HIV status to two other companies,” Apptimize and Localytics, which “help optimize apps.”
“Because the HIV information is sent together with users’ GPS data, phone ID, and email, it could identify specific users and their HIV status,” BuzzFeed News explained, adding that the company was also “sharing its users’ precise GPS position, ‘tribe’ (meaning what gay subculture they identify with), sexuality, relationship status, ethnicity, and phone ID to other third-party advertising companies.”
The information, excluding HIV statuses, was being transferred via “plain text” format, which BuzzFeed News noted can be “easily hacked.”
“The HIV status is linked to all the other information. That’s the main issue,” declared SINTEF researcher Antoine Pultier, whose company first identified the concern. “I think this is the incompetence of some developers that just send everything, including HIV status.”
In response to the news, AIDS advocacy group ACT UP New York’s James Krellenstein called Grindr’s data sharing “an extremely, extremely egregious breach of basic standards.”

I have been called a liar when I say some gay men get HIV on purpose so they can have sex without worry. Sort of like they know it is going to happen so you might as well rip that band-aid off as quick as possible.

I think people with HIV should be required to wear a big read "A" on the front of their clothes. The "A" would stand for "AIDS INFECTED."
Back in the 1980s, I thought they should be rounded up and quarantined.
There really are such people. I've studied this topic enough to know about "bug chasers", and it's just another piece of evidence that homosexuals are nuts.
They also get subsidized apartments, and a high discount on AIDS drugs. There are a lot of “freebies” related to being HIV infected, which is why billions are spent. We also subsidize a lot of African AIDS drugs.

Really? I never knew that. I've always liked William F. Buckley. He was more the thinking man's conservative. Trouble is, our opposition is either nuts, corrupt, or both.
Reason does not work on the corrupt, and it does not work on the insane, so there is very little merit to try to debate them into realizing they are wrong.
Trump's methodology of ridiculing them and bulldozing over them is far more effective.
Thanks for informing me of that Buckley idea. Pointless now, but at least it reassures me that he had a better grasp of the problem than most.
