Trump: Border wall construction will start on Monday
Washington examiner ^

Posted on 03/24/2018 5:00:01 PM PDT by MNDude

President Trump said Friday that construction of his promised border wall would start "immediately" after signing the omnibus spending bill, which included $1.6 billion in funding for the wall.

"We're going to be starting work literally on Monday," Trump said during an event Friday at the White House. "We have a lot of money coming to the border."

Trump had threatened earlier Friday to veto the spending bill Congress passed on Thursday because it did not include sufficient funding for the wall and because it omitted expiring protections for young, undocumented immigrants.

What a great analysis. I was fuming on Friday, but by yesterday I realized the president needs our support. His body of work the last fourteen months, for the most part, shows a man fighting back against the entrenched Deep State DC establishment, and not someone who is or wants to be part of it. We have to get used to this roller coaster ride and admire what this man has done despite an entire “army” of DC politicians, bureaucrats and media people trying to stop him plus dealing with a large number of backstabbers in his own party! We will get upset with him from time to time, but we also know he’s the first Chief Executive since Reagan to be so bold and decisive pushing forward the conservative agenda even if he himself is not ideological. He has put up with more crap than any president in our lifetime, and probably in the history of this country. Yet, he perseveres and keeps going. That alone deserves our admiration and not our condemnation!

From what I have been reading there is a huge difference between a budget vs. a spending bill/CR.Evidently there is more discretion in the spending bills and is why obama never ever wanted a budget so he could play it fast and loose with the spending. And he did with no repercussions.

Seems many believe that the spending bills are more "suggestions" other than mandated expenditures like ss or medicare.

Trump saying he starts building the border fence tomorrow may suggest he is well aware of the differences.

What, you thought they’d be writing checks made payable to the US? Or you thought they’d send cash payments piled up on crates?

No, Trump has made it clear that Mexico will pay for the wall one way or another. Take that as you will.

...the absolute national defense necessity of stopping the wetback invasion at our southern border.

Totally agree, but the second front in this war must be the eviction of the 40 million illegal colonistas who are camped within our borders.

And rob the military of its much needed upgrades?

I'm all for essential support and vital upgrades for our military, but they're notorious for buying a ton of $500 hammers.

The Wall is a vital component of our national security, and I have faith that President Trump will allocate sufficient funds to get it started without harming our military.

They didn't. They spent $5 for the hammer and hid $495.

You posted a comment by me. I saw at 272 you called me a Never Trumper and closet Hillary supporter. Is that correct? Oh, and then I disappeared?

If I’m reading you correctly and you posted your inaccurate opinion on my own opinion I have been a Trump supporter since day one. I loathe Hillary and have since the first time the criminal Clinton’s emerged. Check my page, I’ve been a FReeper a very long time. I certainly hope I misunderstood what you are intending lumping me into your opinion group.

This is what’s wrong with FR these days and exactly why I rarely post anymore. The disrespect. Please explain.

From what I am reading, the president as commander-in-chief of the military, can use funds from the record breaking big military funding for the wall. All he needs to do is declare wall is necessary to defend the homeland.
>

Though we may like the outcome, it would seem to be another example of “It’s not Fascism when *WE* do it”.

Regardless of the “Buy Congress passed...”, it wasn’t 1) theirs to ‘give away’ 2) Exec. is to faithfully execute the law (like I disagree w/ the whole Pres war for 90 days BS...if ‘national security’, go to Congress and do it PROPERLY\legally)

Jane, I erased the word “him” when I rewrote my sentence. Obviously. It’s called a “typo”.

They spent $5 for the hammer and hid $495.

You know it.

Reminds me of the scene in the movie, Independence Day, when the president, seeing the secret labs at Area 51 for the first time, remarks, "Where did all this come from?", and the old guy in the back says, "You didn't really believe they paid $500 for a hammer, did you?"

“They didn’t. They spent $5 for the hammer and hid $495. “

Still a bit misleading, hid is not the best word it is more of a case that you have obscure weapon systems expenditures to mask what you’re doing from the enemy. The word “hid” sounds sinister or corrupt.

When I walked into church this morning, half a dozen people with whom I had never discussed politics were angrily discussing how Trump had thrown us all “under the bus”. Naturally, I chimed in, in agreement.
Trump did NOT have to sign this sewage. He could have used the bully pulpit to speak to America, and held firm, calling out the Democrats for blackmailing our military to force a few hundred billion extra shekels of pork barrel generational theft.

I completely agree, and have hope that when the bastards see that we're serious as hell about this wall, and are continuing/ramping up the ICE offensive, that a Yuge part of 'em will decide it's just not worth it anymore and get the hell out.
