Do they need 51 votes to change Senate rules?

Trump has no one to blame but himself for this travesty. He could have used his veto power as leverage with Congress to help craft the bill more to his liking. Instead he let Congress have free reign to write whatever bill they wanted, and this is the result.

...As President Trump explains it — “eight Dems totally control the U.S. Senate...

This is a two edged sword. We may need 8 Conservatives after 2018 or 2020, if we can find 8, to stop lunatic democrat oppressive gun legislation. But, a liberal majority could make that rule change themselves.

There is zero chance that the senate will ditch the filibuster rule at this point. No Dim would vote for it and there are several Republicans who would oppose it, some specifically to thwart Trump’s agenda just as that was the intent of the Omnibus just signed into law.

It bugs me that Trump is dwelling on something that has no chance of being done.

Oh, don’t worry, the Senate will eliminate the filibuster altogether . . . the minute Chuck Schumer is the Majority Leader.

Mitch has his head so far up the Chinese governments ass, we’ll never get anything accomplished while he is in leadership.

What a pathetic joke he is. I promise he will try and fail to wag the dog with a war in the middle east with your life and money.

No.
It’s not the 1917 version of the filibuster that’s the problem.
That was fine.

In the 70’s the rule was changed so that ‘filibusterers’ didn’t even have to be present.
That’s the snag.

Pres Trump is going to have to resort to telling congress “this is how it is”, instead of asking. When did I ever hear the dems ASK for anything!!

Today Trump lost his usual firm speaking ability.. he sounded like he had lost a battle and did not like the feeling. I didn’t like it either.

He’s withstood so much in the past year+...

I hated every moment barack was the President... hated what he stood for and what he was doing.. and the adoration the media and the left gave him. Now, it’s another problem.. I hate what they are doing to my President!! I hope there is a day of reckoning for barack and his administration and for the media! The media will never be a ‘news outlet’ ever again... they have thrown their talents to the wind and they are GONE!

(I do not know what bill clinton and loretta talked about that day in AZ, but from the stuff coming out now, I’d bet there was a kind of a promise involved.... I don’t think bill wasted his time making small talk, with what was hanging in the balance out there for them....)

The swamp creatures used the military funding as hostage. They knew Trump couldn’t veto misspending. We need the money to prepare for the next round with China and Russia. He lost a major battle but not the war. I am sure He has lost business and law battles and law before. He will come out and make up for this. This is Trumps to lose.

A simple Veto would put things in motion to at least step back, reconsider, contemplate and revise. I cannot fathom Trump Inc. would run a budget that is this sick and irresponsible. I don’t want to be smart a** but it is not like America can declare bankruptcy and start fresh. Putting the debt forward will always mean that the corporation will die eventually.

Of course, the U.S. Senate could simply get rid of the two-track rule, so that Chuck Schoooooooooomer would have to recite Beatles songs for hours on the Senate floor to stop GOP legislation from passing.
