The Weather Channel TV network was sold Thursday to comedian-turned-media mogul Byron Allen.
Allens Entertainment Studios Inc. bought the 36-year-old TV staple from the Blackstone Group, Bain Capital and Comcast.
Terms of the sale were not disclosed, but sources pegged the price at about $300 million.
The network and its digital property weather.com were purchased by the trio 10 years ago for $3.5 billion.
The web properties were sold to IBM in 2015 for $2 billion.
The Weather Channel is one of the most trusted and extremely important cable networks, with information vitally important to the safety and protection of our lives, said Allen, who rose to fame as a Real People host in 1979. The acquisition of the Weather Channel is strategic, as we begin our process of investing billions of dollars over the next five years to acquire some of the best media assets around the world.

Founded in 1993 by Allen, Entertainment Studios owns the HD cable networks JusticeCentral.tv, Cars.tv, Pets.tv and Recipe.tv.

I used to watch for Hillary Andrews. It seemed like every time the camera came back to her, she had another button undone.
I remember him as being clean and articulate.
LOL....!
Out in California you’re gonna have warm weather tomorrow, some gang wars and some very overpriced real estate.

(yes, I skimmed the Bill Murray thread - will have to go back to it)
How funny..... Yes, I can see that boating would require accuracy in weather! Thanks for the chuckle.
Youre missing that the billions was tied to the web portion, which was purchased by IBM. This is just the TV network. If the IBM portion includes the mobile app, I guess that makes some sense.
Weather Channel value drops from $3.5 bil to $2 bil to $0.3 bil dollars.
Next year I will offer 30 bucks! Take it or leave it.
Two cast members have already passed on. The guy at the top and the one at the bottom. Heart attacks.
Dont’t forget that they unloaded all the web stuff and the actual weather related stuff to IBM for $2B so it dropped from $3.5B to $2.3B. Still not a great investment. More on the IBM thing - https://www.marketwatch.com/story/ibm-finally-reveals-why-it-bought-the-weather-company-2016-06-15
Oh, right, helps to read the article!!
He’s most likely a front man for a ‘George soros’ type/group of operation interested in ratcheting up the global warming propaganda.
Bain Capital = Romney
I could have written that comment myself.
45 years working outside.
YES, thx, if only I had read every sentence!
Yep ... someone helped an old man out in the memory department .... thanx.
60 years old. Never had one of them cushy inside jobs.
Talk about forgotten faces.
But my wife and I are cattle farmers and we access The Weather Channel website for up-to-date rain and wind forecasts and accurate temperature readings at least a couple of times a day.
They do a great job. It is accurate for our area in north central Florida and makes our decision-making around the farm easier.
If I had 300 million to invest, I could find better things but I am just one of the little people.
