Trump signs $1.3 trillion spending bill despite veto threat on Twitter
Washington Post ^ | March 23, 2018 | John Wagner and Mike DeBonis

Just hours after threatening a veto, President Trump said Friday afternoon that he had signed the sweeping $1.3 trillion spending bill passed by Congress early Friday and averted a government shutdown. In a morning tweet, Trump said he might veto the omnibus bill because it does nothing to address the fate of young undocumented immigrants known as “dreamers” and does not fully fund his border wall. But speaking to reporters at the White House about four hours later, Trump said he had decided to sign the bill despite his reservations, arguing that it provides much-needed funding for the military, including a pay increase for troops and new equipment.Just hours after threatening a veto, President Trump said Friday afternoon that he had signed the sweeping $1.3 trillion spending bill passed by Congress early Friday and averted a government shutdown.

Sorry, he betrayed his voters, the Constitutional vow and subsequent generations by signing this. Gorsuch will be seen only as his low water mark, by the leftists who will write “history” books. The chances of confirming another solid justice after the Great Demoralization that he wrought today is just about zero.
BTW, the judiciary is also MY most important issue, and I know that the GOP is about to get trounced in November, after this horror of today.

I wonder if any of today’s bashers are actually Putin’s trolls at KGB HQ in St Petersburg?

About the same amount that are turd polishers who actually supported Hillary.

I know people are upset. I wanted different too. I will say this, suck it up this time. Trump did not write this bill, but the military is a damn mess.

Payback to The SOBs that wrote this bill and profit from it are going to go to hell.

The alternative to POTUS is far worse people. I am angry too, but I will direct it at the scumbags who wrote and forced this shameful bill on to The President and We The People.

I really need to stop reading FR and read this bill.

You are a trooper!! Would you (please) be a dear, and give us your cliff notes on what your studies find?

I’ve cobbled together bits and pieces...between threads here, and hubby absolutely furiously yelling at Trump/TV, today, but still don’t think I have a full understanding.

It may need a thread, on its own. A ‘Complete Breakdown of the Omnibus Bill”.

Thank you, in advance, dear Duchess :-)

I wonder how many of the pearl clutchers and whiners here in FR actually KNOW what is going on in Washington and behind what happened today??

I feel there are reasons this happened and as bad as it may seem, there are probably good reasons why President Trump did what he did...

his #1 priority, $700 billion for defense spending.

That is the wrong priority and it was an excuse not unlike the democratic, "it is for the children" meme.

This is Cult of Trump ...it’s how freepers do

They did it for Bush

You could get wolf packed for Bush bashing by the harpies or even zotted

Now it’s the same with Trimp except you can criticize him for now

The logic is as follows

Trump has done good things so he gets a pass

He’s playing Bobby FischerX100 chess

His administration is not leaky and unwieldy and mercurial but rather a well oiled machine which is bullshit....his administration is a bull in a china shop with too many egos thinking their self importance is paramount....and that’s Trumps fault

The executive branch is not your executive committee at Trump inc where ideas and policy gets fought over

These swamp critters feel unloved and they leak on you about mistresses or you farted at lunch or Rex Tillerson said you were a moron.

Yes he’s usually a fighter and has accomplished some good things

But this was a mistake and his marquee issues are either fading away or he’s giving in.....Wall and amnesty

He’s facing challenges no president in modern history has from a media in rebellion , a security apparatus in revolt and a far left opposition party

If he abandons his base and loses his diehards like us he’s done.....no question the House will drum up impeachment based on myths

Lucky for him probably won’t be enough senate votes to convict

He is already likely beholden for favors in that event

He’s ferocious and smart but no politician .....and that makes him vulnerable in this incredible situation we’re in

I’m old...this is new turf.....beyond Nixon excess and Clinton corruption

Trumps enemies are determined and close and very powerful

His supporters are his strength

He should have listened to that today

Fawning here notwithstanding

Okay...so, the military/AAC is going to build the wall. I am great, with that.

How will POTUS defund Planned Parenthood, remove the CDC and SS gun restrictions and remove the bonuses Congress gave themselves, from this monstrosity?

Hubby says we’ve been thrown under the Omnibus. :-(

Why is it always either or on Free Republic

One can bash Trump today and remember it and still support him

Is anyone here now saying they will oppose Trump and support someone else because he signed this?

I have never had faith in the GOPe....

They are just what used to be moderate Democrats

But you don’t get it

It’s genius

Don’t criticize our president

God this is just like Bush here when he proposed amnesty except the no criticism crowd has not jouice like they did then

Trump was wrong today....it ain’t complicated

He’s stumbled....he wins when he fights and goes for it

Judges are the most important issue to me

Then you should care whether we keep the Senate or not.

What’s the plan, Stan? His party has abandoned him. With the midterms coming up there is no way he could bully them into a better deal.

I really need someone to explain to me how much control over how and when the money is spent that POTUS has.

Depends on which President I suppose, Obama pulled money out of his arse I guess because he spent plenty and I don't recall any spending bill that covered his spending sprees..

Haven’t started yet. Just reading some news links. Note last paragraph.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) celebrated the conclusion of the Fiscal Year 2018 (FY 2018) appropriations process. The Omnibus bill, signed by President Trump, includes $34.5 billion in funding for the DOE.

“As a former appropriator, I am keenly aware of the work that goes in to the budget process, and I am grateful for the certainty that this FY 2018 Budget will bring our Department,” said Secretary Perry. “This package funds our missions and will allow us to do great work for American energy. DOE will now be focused on executing our work under this budget in the most effective way possible.”

Some highlights from the package include:

$6.3 billion for Science research programs

$2.3 billion for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE)

$1.2 billion for Nuclear Energy

$727 million for Fossil Energy

$353 million for The Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E)

$7.1 billion for Environmental Management (EM)

The DOE budget provides funding for critical priorities, including over $500 million to advance exascale computing and over $100 million for cybersecurity to protect electric grid and energy infrastructure. This package also includes the suspension of any plans to barter, sell or transfer the 600 metric tons of uranium used to fund the Portsmouth site. Most importantly this package emphasizes the Trump Administration’s continued focus on our national security by increasing the overall funding for the National Nuclear Security Administration.

Wrong. This is the cult of reality. This bill wasn’t born yesterday. Conservatives in Congress failed us. Where were the alarm bells? Rand has been running his mouth non stop. Nairy a word about this. Where was Ted Cruz calling McConnell a liar for pushing this garbage? Etc., Etc.

The reality is we’ve got a wounded POTUS with limited political capital. His party has abandoned him in the face of a criminal witch hunt.

So your choice is either to stand with Flake and Schumer and attack POTUS or demand his own party FULLY support him. Because if they don’t we will get more of this with McConnell and Ryan controlling the agenda.
