Trump signs $1.3 trillion spending bill despite veto threat on Twitter

Just hours after threatening a veto, President Trump said Friday afternoon that he had signed the sweeping $1.3 trillion spending bill passed by Congress early Friday and averted a government shutdown. In a morning tweet, Trump said he might veto the omnibus bill because it does nothing to address the fate of young undocumented immigrants known as “dreamers” and does not fully fund his border wall. But speaking to reporters at the White House about four hours later, Trump said he had decided to sign the bill despite his reservations, arguing that it provides much-needed funding for the military, including a pay increase for troops and new equipment.Just hours after threatening a veto, President Trump said Friday afternoon that he had signed the sweeping $1.3 trillion spending bill passed by Congress early Friday and averted a government shutdown.

He should have vetoed it on principal alone.

Not one living person knows all that’s in there. It’s a cobbled up cornucopia of steaming porcine excrement.

He could have vetoed it, forced the swamp back to washington and told them work with me or override me! Now that would have taken balz and would have been the right thing to do!

The bill underfunds our current immigration resources!

You are spot on. I will overlook a ton of junk, including his personal scandals (fake or not fake), I will overlook this hunk of legislative junk as well but I NEED to see some corruption charges being leveled against some peeps from the Obama administration, the Clinton camp etc.

Red meat? maybe but if these scumbags get away with defiling every single government agency out there, then nothing else matters.

We chose him, knowing he wasn’t “hard right” and that he’ll do strange things to reliably achieve big goals. Continue to stand with Trump (though do let him know you’re rather pissed about this).

We sure didn't think he was Hard Left either, but this bill was hard left. Pelosie and Schumer said they got way more in this bill than the ever got from Democrats.

What a huge disappointment. The Left and the RINOs win again.

The House, the MAGA agenda, and Trump’s second term, are all in jeopardy now.

I think Trump did what he had to do...put the military first. He knows there is a big war coming. He probably has some kind of plan to get the wall built without a compromise on DACA. This will cost the Repukes in November, But that was THEIR PLAN...to loose the majority. It's the Uniparty. He is a hell of a lot better than anyone else out there. Imagine if Hildacunt one. We'd all be in fema camps (sarc) by now.

During Trump’s explanation he noted the funding of missile defense systems. That is critical when you realize that in less than 60 days, Trump will go into negotiations with NoKo and Iran and did not want to do that with a depleted military.

The house vote on this bill is perplexing. Dems on both sides, yea & nay. Some state R delegations voted 100% for it (KS) and others (UT) voted 100% against it. The squishy middle of both parties voted for it. I guess that makes it Bi-Partisan?

Recent Presidential vetoes of budgets seems rare. I am looking into POTUS vetoes and do not see a budget veto since 1995 by Clinton (was it after Dems lost the house?) This “Omnibus” was thrown in front of Trump on the day before a government shut down, BY LEADERS IN HIS OWN PARTY. Signed with a gun to the head, so to speak. Trump administrations certainly has a lot on its plate...I guess Trump is supposed to manage the Congress too?

Trump definitely had the can’t you people handle anything look upon his face.

Life and politics always includes winning and losing.

The difference between winners and losers is losers give up easily.

Right! 1.3T and no wall, a lessening of our current immigration resources, and it’s only a 6 month Budget not a year!

I wonder how this affects our current Base Line Budgeting scam?

That was my read on it too. He was willing to punt it all in order to get that military funding because something major is going down in the next few months.

If it doesn’t he is SCROOOOOOOOD.

This is CONgress, that is out of control...he sent a budget in earlier that was a lot less pork. He can only request what he wants. Next budget, he won’t have the military spending threat over his head.

Welcome to the govt. Chalk it up as a loss and we wont win every damn time. The economy is booming, get us 2 more picks at SCOTUS, have ICE catch illegals everyday and kill ISIS. There’s more to be done but he has a long game. Regroup..
