Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - Amtrak says it will be renaming the newly-renovated train station in Rochester after the late Rep. Louise Slaughter.
The full name of the Rochester Intermodal Station will become the Louise M. Slaughter Intermodal Station in Rochester.
The announcement was made Wednesday morning by Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand. The two were among several lawmakers at the local, state and national level who made the case for Slaughter to be the namesake for the train station.
Last week, Schumer and Gillibrand in a letter to Amtrak said, renaming the train station is fitting for such an individual who busted through every bureaucratic hurdle and was solely responsible for securing the necessary federal funding for a train station that will strengthen Rochesters economy and help residents travel more safely and reliably throughout the region.
To Louise everyone in her district whether they were Democrats or Republicans she treated like her family," Schumer said in a statement. "Thats just the type of person Louise was...One of Louises most significant accomplishments was delivering the federal funding that made the Rochester Train Station a reality."
The Democratic Congresswoman was on hand on October 5, 2017 for the grand opening of the new train station. Slaughter helped to bring in $15 million in federal funding to make the train station renovation a reality.
Amtrak will work with the City of Rochester and State of New York on the details of the naming, commemorative plaque and funding for the train station's naming.

The hag slaughtered herself.

Why don’t they ‘deem’ it to be renamed without actually changing the signage?
Slaughter was in favor of such cowardly tactics. It would be a fitting memorial of shame.
Hmmm, I wonder how a Jewish person would feel coming off of a train with a sign that says “Slaughter” on it?
GMTA. Was going to post just that.

Imagine how the Iron Shiek must feel...
Now can we rename Amtrak to the “Welfare Express”??
Well, over time Pres Trump will be replacing Amtraks board members as their terms expire. Personally, I would never name another thing after a politician (except maybe some public toilets). We have hundreds of thousands of KIA service-members going back through our Nations wars who should be honored long before any hack politician.
I’ve been to that station.
This is not a compliment.
Sgt. Slaughter would be amused.
BOHICA, taxpayers...
I propose a moratorium on naming public buildings or places after politicians, dead or alive.

With Amtrak’s safety record as of late, I would think that “Slaughter Station” would be a fitting choice.
“I propose a moratorium on naming public buildings or places after politicians, dead or alive.”
I agree.
Living here in Minnesota, you can’t throw a dead cat without hitting a building named after Walter Mondale, Hubert Humphrey or Paul Wellstone.
OK, I’m exaggerating - just a bit though.
Meanwhile, Amtrak’s NYC to Buffalo route is still as slow as molasses. It’s rarely on time, and usually 1-3 hours late. By the time you arrive, the bathrooms stink.
In the state park near where I live, Andy Cuomo has had them put up little signs near each entrance with his name on them.
These are new. No governor before Andy has done it, although his father made sure his name was on bronze plaques that are next to the main door of every rest stop on the Thruway.
But Andy’s signs are free-standing, on poles. They do not serve to commemorate any building or structure that was erected with money allocated by him. They are just ... there. They just ensure that everyone who enters the park knows who the governor is.
I bet they come down the next time there’s a Republican governor, if that ever happens again.

When I think of Louise! I think of the pothole filled Lake Ontario State Parkway. it was the only road that connected her former district and it was and still is a total mess.
I would prefer “Slaughter House” but I guess that your right Slaughter Station.
