Two education professors recently argued that aspiring K-12 teachers who hold conservative views and resist social justice theories may not be qualified to work with children.
Erin Miller and Tehia Stark-Glass, both professors at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, advanced the case in a March 8 article in the journal The New Educator entitled The Maintenance of Whiteness in Urban Education, expressing concerns that white conservative teachers will be unable to effectively teach minorities if they do not thoroughly internalize social justice.
"Their whiteness seemed to congeal when they perceived the course material as un-American, in contrast with their conservatism."
The professors assert that some white students in their elementary education diversity classes have impervious dispositions that would likely not qualify them to work with diverse children, as evidenced by the fact that those who struggled most with the course content tended to think they were being indoctrinated into Anti-American values.

The day CW II starts, these two morons will be swinging high (and not in a good way).
If anyone has a way around the paywall, please post it. It would be interesting to know what "conservative" values the two professors deem incompatible with a teaching career. The profs also object that conservatives regard their course as indoctrination into "anti-American" values. I suspect that is exactly what their course it, but it would be interesting to know how their are drawing the "anti-American" line in the sand.
Academic scholarship is bottom of the barrel.
I’ll schedule that “Social Justice” course right after I complete the ones on astrology and phrenology.
frankly, i’d be investigating at this point for violations of academic freedom and advocacy of thought control. and yes, their jobs would be on the line in front of the school’s academic senate based on the evidence of their rhetoric and behavior in the classroom.
No one should be employed to teach social justice.
It’s a crap fest of ideology.
“as evidenced by the fact that those who struggled most with the course content tended to think they were being indoctrinated into Anti-American values.
Well, let’s see the “course content”.
How about this excerpt?
"Their whiteness seemed to congeal when they perceived the course material as un-American, in contrast with their conservatism."
Congealed whiteness? Is that a nastier substance than "gender fluid?"
I’m a teacher. I’m appalled.
Still working on the case for separate black schools.
I went through these courses and other “education” courses in the 80’s-90’s and they were useless crap then. I trained to be a high school history teacher and the first day I went to the classroom for student teaching in this small country school the teacher who’s classes I would be teaching pulled me aside and told me the obvious, the stuff they are teaching you is useless in the real world, 95% of it is useless crap, watch me and learn. He was quite correct. Thankfully I was pulled in another direction than the classroom.
Try saying their blackness seemed to congeal and see if youre even allowed to finish whatever idiotic point youre trying to make.
Not even close. There is no nastier substance on earth than “gender fluid”...
A child is not "diverse." Diversity is a group trait.

I know a woman who, after a divorce from a neanderthal husband, went back to school and got her degree and teaching certificate. Rightfully proud of her accomplishment in middle age, she applied for a job in the Charlotte Mecklenburg system. She was relegated to a minority school with a black staff and a black female principal. She related well to other teachers and the students, but the principal evidently felt that white women should not be teaching black children. The principal harassed her at every opportunity, criticizing the layout of her classroom, the placement of the alphabet on the wall, her lesson plans, everything—making her life miserable. She finally had enough and quit. I suspect her principal represents completely the ideas espoused by these “authors”.
The aqua regia of the modern PC world.
