GOP Senator Rand Paul publicly announced his total opposition to President Trump’s nominees to head the State Department and the CIA on Wednesday; saying he’s “going to do everything” he can to block them from office.
According to Politico, the outspoken Senator revealed his intentions while speaking with reporters at the US Capitol, saying people “complain sometimes about the filibuster” but added he plans to use the procedural maneuver to derail the nomination process.
“People complain sometimes about the filibuster, they complain about trying to obstruct… “I’m going to do everything I can to block them,” said Paul.
“I’m perplexed by the nomination of people who love the Iraq War so much that they would advocate for a war with Iran next,” Paul added. “It goes against most of the things President Trump campaigned on, that the unintended consequences of regime change in Iraq led to instability in the Middle East.”

I was under the impression that once a Cabinet member had been confirmed for a position, he didn’t need to be confirmed again if being transferred to another Cabinet position.
I guess I was wrong, if they’re discussing a hearing and confirmation for Pompeo.
So do I. Pompeo is Deep State all the way. I had no love for Tillerson, but this is a big step in the wrong direction.

First of all, contrary to modern urban myth, torture actually does work. If done properly, and a skilled interrogator convinces a subject that he is going to be tortured and uses the right techniques to let him know - beyond a shadow of a doubt - that lying, misleading or fabrication will lead to real torture, the vast majority of the time a subject will very carefully and deliberately tell you what you are looking for - if he knows.
Secondly, waterboarding is scary as hell, but isn’t torture. We use it in our own training, along with other unpleasant things; ask anyone who’s been through SERE.
Finally - for now, RENDITION was about more than “torture.” It was about getting actionable intelligence out of people who had actionable information and doing so as quickly as possible. Would Paul object to “enhanced interrogation” or real torture if his own child were being held and he knew he or she was going to be executed on video in less than 24 hours? Would you?

I think Pompeo can serve for a year, without confirmation, to be able to go right in to the position. Will need new confirmation after a year. IIUC.
