“it would spark more questions about how to offset the lost revenues”

How about cutting spending? Really tired of paying for illegals’ lifestyles :(

Let’s have Phase I of spending cuts first, to do other is total fiscal irresponsibility.

You do not have my permission to borrow one more dollar that my children will have to repay.

Dude...the tariffs aren’t for propping up the gubmint. They’re for making fair (balanced) trade deals...like when EVERY foreign government pays off the crooks in DC to drop our import duties on goods that flow into their districts. How do you think the politicians get rich? Smart negotiators find a way to pay off these bozos that happily screw us over! It’s been a scam that’s been going on for too long and Trump’s putting an end to it! (see Trade Deficit) Why do you think they REALLY hate Trump...because of his hair?

it would spark more questions about how to offset the lost revenues.

Simple: Reduce the size, scope, power, and COST of government. Use a strict reading of the Constitution as a guide.

Drastically reduced size, scope, power, and COST of government. That is the ONLY Conservative position to take.

This is what the establishment GOP doesn’t do — stay on the offensive. Normally, the tax cut would be followed by nothing and the GOP would go on the defensive for the rest of the term as the Dems attacked it. Trump is keeping the pressure on — MORE tax cuts. I love it. Unfortunately, he and the GOP aren’t coupling it with spending cuts, which they should be doing. Don’t call it cutting benefits — call it draining the swamp. Start firing bureaucrats. If he cut 10% or 15% of the federal workforce, they wouldn’t be missed.

There is a simplistic, archaic view of tariffs expressed by so many here and then there is the real world.

In the Trump view presented in full view so far, there are two targets for tariffs.

The first is to tariff products like steel and apparently aluminum that are sold by foreign vendors at less than the cost of production. That is in the jargon, products that are dumped. It seems to be that steel products that are competitive but not dumped might not be treated so harshly.

Then there is a second class. The target we know is washing machines from South Korea. That tariff is leverage. Such sapecific actions on specific products from specific countries are intended to encourage the nation in question to drop specific tariffs on specific American exports. The aim is to end the tariffs on American exports. That is the strategy for negotiating with every specific country for every specific export product.

Trump met with lots of CEO's and they certainly provided a list of countries and products. He will not be flying blind orn instruments. He has a very clear road forward.

Trumps goal is to increase jobs by increasing manufacturing and then sales on a GLOBAL scale

Just force the dems to vote prior to the id-terms on making the 2017 temporary tax rates permanent.

It would be nice, but I don’t think the Pubs still have a quorum in the Senate. And I seriously doubt any Dems will make up for the lack of Pub votes. Not with Chuckles in charge of the Senate’s Marxist contingent.

phase 2 = ALL CUTS IN phase 1 ARE PERMANENT, AND MAY NOT BE REDUCED! THE CUTS MAY BE INCREASED BUT NOT REDUCED.

>>>The penny plan is an actual cut of 1% across the board in every department.

Would that apply to programs like social security and Medicare? We get about an extra million SS beneficiaries every year, or about 1.6% growth. So with your plan, SS beneficiaries would see a decline in payment of about 2.6%.
