Shutting down Staten Island NRA event is no way to debate gun safety
Staten Island Advance ^ | March 11, 2018 | Tom Wroblewski

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - So much for freedom of assembly.

Following an outcry from Staten Island Democratic elected officials, the annual Friends of the NRA fundraiser at the Vanderbilt restaurant in South Beach has been cancelled.

Because that's how we conduct debate about important issues here: We shout down the viewpoints that we don't agree with. We don't let people we disagree with even gather.

We've seen much the same from the left on college campuses, where protestors have rioted in order to shut down speeches by conservatives.

It's two Constitutional amendments that get denigrated here with the NRA cancellation: The right to bear arms and the right to assemble.

The purpose of all that is to set the blame firmly in idiots’ minds as belong to the NRA, so they won’t think about who is really to blame: liberal politics.

The NRA people should surround an abortion mill and shut it down. How long would they be there before the people with guns kicked them out?

"Following an outcry from Staten Island Democratic elected officials, the annual Friends of the NRA fundraiser at the Vanderbilt restaurant in South Beach has been cancelled."

This appears to be a 14th Amendment violation where constitutionally enumerated rights to free speech and to assemble are concerned imo.

And what’s even worse than state officials allegedly abridging constitutionally enumerated protections is this imo.

Even though the states have given Congress the express power to make punitive laws to discourage state officials from abridging constitutionally enumerated protections, we still have a corrupt, post-17th Amendment (17A) ratification Congress left over from the lawless Obama administration that will predictably not lift a finger to make laws to strengthen the rights of citizens from state abridgment of those protections.

This is why citizens need to finish the job that they started when they elected Trump president in 2018.

More specifically, patriots now need to be making sure that there are plenty of Trump-supporting, Constitution-respecting patriots on the 2018 primary ballots who will do their duty to protect citizens from activist state governments that abridge constitutionally enumerated rights, and pink-slip career lawmakers by sending patriot candidate lawmakers to DC on election day.

And until the states wake up and repeal 17A, as evidenced by concerns about the integrity of Alabama's special Senate election, patriot candidates need to win elections by a large enough margin to compensate for possible deep state ballot box fraud and associated MSM scare tactics.

.
No need to hack democracy, just expell it and return to constitutional governance.

Can someone explain to me exactly how this event was shut down?

Its not like they needed a permit or anything.

My question too. Did somebody knucle under like a pussy, were there threats of violence or a mass protest?

This wouldn't happen in Michigan, I can assure you. We'd take care of business with the protestors.

The event was scheduled for September, so there is a chance they can find another venue.

What is disturbing is the elected officials pressuring private parties to discriminate against the political opposition.

This is NAZI Germany style tactics.

The Democrats are openly showing their fascist roots.

Does it rise to the level of a lawsuit for deprivation of rights at the federal level? Maybe.

Local officials pressured the venue to break the agreement to host the event. The event is not until September, so it is possible they may find another venue. The local politicians are crowing about their *victory* over the evil NRA.

“As a community, we have worked hard to address gun violence in this neighborhood, and an event like this was not in the best interests of the community. The Vanderbilt has been an important partner of the community, and the decision to cancel this event shows that they are accessible and hear concerns of our community,” Savino (D-North Shore) said.

Councilwoman Debi Rose (D-North Shore) and Assemblyman Matthew Titone (D-North Shore) said they were “appalled” to learn about the fundraiser prior to its cancellation and “refuse to cooperate with evil.”

Upon learning about the fundraiser’s cancellation, Rose said: “I thank all those who joined us in raising their voices, as well as The Vanderbilt for listening to our collective voices, and I look forward to continuing to work together in the pursuit of commonsense solutions to keep our students safe.”

Max Rose, a democratic congressional candidate and combat veteran, said he’s glad to see the event cancelled and is tired of Congress standing idle while weapons are used to “mow down innocent Americans”

“Let’s be clear: the NRA is only concerned about protecting the profit margin of the gun industry, not the safety of our children or the brave men and women in law enforcement. This is the time for comprehensive gun reform in this country, and an end to the NRAs influence on our politics,” Max Rose said.

The venue needs to be sued for any losses created by this breach. The venue owners may be within their rights to refuse service. They do not have a right to agree to provide service and then withdraw from that agreement. Those encouraging such a withdrawal may be held liable for tortious interference and deserve to pay damages.
