Cuomo considering statewide ban on plastic bags
nypost ^

Gov. Cuomo said he’s considering backing a statewide ban on plastic bags to help curb unnecessary trash — a day after Mayor de Blasio proposed such a restriction for New York City.

“It’s clear that we need to address the real environmental concerns caused by the proliferation of plastic ‎bags, and a ban is one of the options we’re reviewing,” Cuomo spokesman Richard Azzopardi said.

Not so fast, said one influential state lawmaker.

“The first step is that they should enforce what’s on the books,” said Sen. Simcha Felder (D-Brooklyn), who led a successful fight against the city imposing a 5-cent fee on the bags. “There’s a recycling bill that’s on the books that’s not being enforced. After they do what’s in the laws, then they can propose new laws.”

A number of other New York localities have banned plastic bags, including East Hampton, Southampton and Patchogue Village on Long Island, and Mamaroneck, Hastings-on-Hudson, New Paltz and Rye in Westchester County/Hudson Valley.

New York can’t export anything unless the import state agrees to it.

We know. When we refer to NY in this way it is toward metro NYC and similar mindsets. It’s like Chicago..and then there is the rest of Illinois. They both should be made into’ city/states and their representatives’ collective asses kicked out of the state legislature and no vote allowed by their miserable residents.

Yes, and VA, NC, FL etc are painfully aware of it.

I don't blame you for feeling that way, but NY is really two states; "upstate" NY is pretty much like Ohio or Tennessee, somewhat right of center,

I lived in Ithaca while I was getting a degree from Cornell. AND I can guarantee you that not only the faculty, but the citizenry in general in that area belonged philosophically and attitudinally (at the time and probably still do) in the old Soviet Union. I found a couple of hunters who didn't hate all guns, but thought handguns should be banned because you can't use them for hunting.

I found extreme hatred, envy, and resentment for anyone who was successful. Then to make matters worse I got a job on the outskirts of NYC (lived in the northern edge of the Bronx - worst place I ever lived) and the leftism didn't just double down there, but increased by an order of magnitude. There are probably a few hundred thousand New Yorkers (total in the state) who don't deserve to have the same fate that they want for the rest of us, but as far as the rest of them go, they can all cheerfully go to hell.

I have a cousin that braids them and makes shower mats.

Or perhaps you are planning an escape, saving them to make a rope for rappeling out the window?

WRONG. Ever heard of federal laws? The NY delegation to Kongress is continually exporting liberalism to the rest of the country - gun control, 0bama care, higher taxes, etc. The conservative states' representatives didn't vote for that and yet we all got it crammed down our throats.

“..... grocery store that only had paper bags”

Who made their own book covers from paper bags? How many had waste baskets that were nothing more than a stout paper bag?

Who neatly folded and saved their paper bags for future use? EVERYONE!

“Save the trees!” Liberal IDIOTS don’t realize that “trees” are a CROP! (that you don’t have to cultivate, water, or fertilize), they just grow.

Me too. And the produce guy would weigh your paper sack of tomatoes or whatever and write the price on the bag with a wax pencil.

And ahh yes, the ice cream sack. Often it was quilted foil and paper. What a nice courtesy that was.

Now all the stores use plastic grocery sacks for everything, and they are marginal at best. Unless you tie your flimsy plastic grocery bags, the contents will be all over the floor and the seat by the time you get home.

...Paper or plastic was born...

And if you are asked if you prefer prefer paper or plastic, and you answer, “It doesn’t matter,” does that mean that
you are “bisacksual?”

Please, that’s the ‘final solution’.

For the interim, they need to only allow to purchase that which can be CARRIED on their person, NO bags allowed.

THAT’LL save Erff

The stats are faked. Just another avenue for control. The voters here in California enacted the statewide ban. I tell you, FRiends, it is a royal pain in the a**
