Eric Bolling Opens Up About Son's Opioid Overdose

Fox News personality and author Eric Bolling tragically lost his son to opioid addiction last year. As painful as the loss is, he was brave enough to share the story during the White House's Opioid Summit Thursday.

In a heartfelt video, Bolling explains how he and his wife found out about their son's death, what they did in the aftermath, and why he is now imploring other parents to be wary of the "Not My Kid Syndrome."

Bolling’s son, he said, was a “normal kid.” He loved baseball, he loved his car, and he had an active social life.

Bolling and his wife were at dinner one night and were driving home when his phone rang and they learned some awful news. It was his son’s sophomore year at college, and he had died of an opioid overdose.

His wife, Bolling said, “fell into the road,” before he gathered her and they both sat on the curb crying and talking for an hour.

“We never saw it coming,” he explained, holding back tears. “Every parent doesn’t want it, but we got it.”

For weeks he obsessed over what went wrong, until he eventually shared his grief on Twitter. Afterward, he said he was "overwhelmed" by the stories of people who had been affected by opioids.

"It helps to talk about it and to find resources," Bolling shared.

One underlying issue for parents to understand, he insisted, is that "Not My Kid Syndrome" is a killer.

"It could very well be your kid," he said. "Do yourself a favor, have the discussion with them, and do it again and again."

"Get involved in your kid’s life," he added. "Keep an eye on what they’re spending. You can save someone."

President Trump let Bolling know he had his back.

Eric, we are all with you and your family! Look forward to seeing you back on T.V. https://t.co/d6y3Q00BSy— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 2, 2018

The greatest pain in the visible universe is a parent losing a child.

Bolling should find a Democrat to run against for Congress.

What goes on in today’s colleges to induce seemingly normal kids to do things like that? And don’t tell us it’s the fault eedof the drug manufacturers.

Everyone grieves in their own way, still, I don’t see how Eric B. got through this video. It seems very soon after the event to be so open. I wish him luck, and too bad he is not still on Fox.

However, each time I see him on my computer, that sight brings it all back, that day of his firing from Fox, immediately followed by the day of the family tragedy. It’s going to be a while before that changes.
Maybe this is how he pushes through it. Stay busy, stay engaged in tightly scheduled things with stimulating people.

Can’t imagine what he been thru.

Fentenyl has been killing thousands.

“According to police documents obtained by The Blast, Eric — whose cause of death was previously ruled an accidental “mixed drug intoxication” after authorities discovered cocaine, marijuana, Xanax, and opioid drugs in his system — knew he had possibly ingested a potentially lethal dose of fentanyl the day before he died. (The Boulder County Coroner’s report confirmed that the opioid drugs fentanyl and cyclopropyl fentanyl were found in his system.)”

I heard him on Hannity. I was driving and I almost had to pull over. When we learned last July that our son had died I fell to the ground like Eric’s wife and started screaming. Nothing protects you for a shock like that.

Kids apparently want to get high and are willing to risk their lives to do it (because they think nothing will happen to them). I never once took any illegal drugs or abused any legal medications. I also was never much of a drinker when young or now. Why people are so determined to get high never made any sense to me. It’s expensive, illegal, and dangerous. I really never saw the appeal.

I’m so sorry about your son. This must be more common than most people are aware of.

Know, that’s why the makers of oxycodone were sued and lost for lying about the addictive effects of the med.

There’s millions and millions of opioids out there made by unicorns, not pharaacuetical companies that PROMISED the meds were only gonna be used for late stage cancer patients way bac when but the they bribed enough FDA officials.

But keep your head in the ground.

It makes your better side show :)

Not everyone who uses oxycodone/Percocet abuses it. To remove a medication because of abusers is not fair to those who are responsible and need relief. Addictions do take place, but the deaths are taking place from fenetyl. Not Percocet.

My middle son needs prayers right now. I don’t think he’s lost but I fear for him.

Sued and lost does not prove lost justly in Today’s court system. The fact is thst you have to be lacking sense not to know thst prolonged use of pain killers is not

I had a disk put in my neck in January 2015 to relieve the C4 and C5 vertebrae from pinching my spine. After the operation, I was given oxycodine for relief of pain. I took one on the way home and it made me feel so bizarre and out of it. I did not like it and stuck to taking regular Tylenol for pain.

I did grass a few times when I was young but only when it was around - at a concert or such. People offered me hash and pills but I refused. I told them alcohol was my drug of choice. Did not want the addiction, the wackiness of drugs. No matter what they say about marijuana and other drugs, I always believed it messed a person up more than booze.
