"This is no little, trivial thing. Even the left loves never stops reminding us, 'words matter.' The problem is that we've bought into the nomenclature of the left, and our doing so has shifted the conversation dramatically in their favor and kept us from focusing and thinking and seeing clearly, and it prevents us from solving our problems in this case, what seems to be the growth of mass murders. This is destructive because it focuses our minds on the 'shooting' i.e., the use of guns and not the crime of mass murder.
"Think of it this way: sadly, we've also bought into the left's labeling of themselves as 'liberals' and 'progressives.' Can someone explain what is liberal about the left? What was liberal about Obama, or Hillary? They're not in favor of more 'liberty.' No, they are authoritarians...often borderline totalitarians. The term 'liberal' comes from the word 'liberty.' Harry Truman was a liberal...and over 70 years ago, he decided that we should drop a couple of atom bombs on our enemy to stop a war that had raged for too long. That was a good thing...and almost everyone who follows American Thinker would vote for him were he running for president today."

They're not 'shooters.' That's because that term is not descriptive of the heinous and evil act that they have committed. THEY ARE MURDERERS! If they took a public bus to the murder scene, would we call them 'busers?' Should we call those rapists who use duck tape to commit their crime 'tapers?' We call them rapists because it clearly communicates that they have committed a heinous CRIME. Get it?
Don’t you just enjoy when the media prints the murderers name especially illegal immigrant perps with a three name title including jr, the third, the second to give them some superiority and above all others importance. The media is truly scum
Leftists _always_ fixate on “shooter”, “gun”, “shooting”, “firearms deaths”, etc - limiting the discussion to “if we get rid of guns, we’ll end shootings” while completely ignoring any other comparable fatalities as though they’re irrelevant precisely because guns weren’t involved.
Control the language, control the thought. See Appendix to _1984_.
Both and more, and so what. I believe the term being used was SCHOOL shooter.
The Democrats are masters of semantics. Remember Bill Clinton’s “Define is”.
I’ll say it again, the most dangerous weapon is an assaultive attitude and intent.
Michael Brown was NOT unarmed.
"The government has the right to [Insert Specific Violation of the Constitution HERE].
Where the People are concerned, the government does not have rights, it has powers.
Using the word "right" instead of the word "power" is nothing but an attempt to soften the perceived impact of whatever Constitutional atrocity the speaker/writer is advocating.
I’ve posted before, this is intentional. A hunter who goes out for a deer is a “shooter”, and the more the conflate the two the better for their nefarious purposes.
Or they could just be helping to identify specific John Smiths in a town rather than all of the John Smiths in the same town.
very good point.
And a social justice-made disaster.
Great point.
Agreed!
Don’t let the beast choose the words we use.
Correct, its a legal reason more than anything else.

Want to bet the shooter at CMU is a troubled youth who was ridiculed for wearing clothes that he got from goodwill and he couldn’t take it anymore? And the college students shot will get the blame for triggering him?
They do the same thing with the concept of drug overdose. In my mind an overdose is either self-administered (aka suicide) or administered by an associate (aka murder).
Maybe they ought to change the nomenclature from “Active Shooter” to “Active Murderer”......I’ve been a very active shooter and never aimed at another person except in self defense.....old hunting stories about idiots in the field.....
‘Suicide’ is too vague... our prurient interests demand we know the how. ;-)
