In #ArmMeWith movement, teachers ask to be armed -- but not with guns

Teachers have taken to social media in the midst of a gun control debate following the Parkland, Florida, school shooting to push for an increase in classroom resources -- not the ability to carry guns in school.

Earlier this week, President Donald Trump suggested that some teachers be armed, calling it a "great deterrent" to mass shootings on campus. Using the hashtag #ArmMeWith, teachers are proposing other resources they would rather be armed with, such as more funding, additional school counselors and smaller class sizes.

Olivia Bertels, a middle school English teacher in Kansas, and Brittany Wheaton, an English teacher in Utah, said they started the #ArmMeWith movement on Tuesday in response to the suggestion that more guns in schools would help make them safer.

"I went to college to educate children, not because I wanted to kill another human. If I wanted a job where I was responsible for carrying a firearm, I would have taken a different career path," Wheaton said. "Teachers already shoulder a huge burden when it comes to educating properly, due to lack of funding, support and resources and making sure their students are taken care of emotionally. Asking us to now carry the burden of having the responsibility to kill is irreparably damaging, even if we never have to discharge our weapon."

Well, that's fine. Do you think you can manage "pepper spraying" a little while a mentally deranged individual is picking off the children in your classroom? Or is that asking too much? For pity sake, be willing to do something, anything, no matter how small to defend yourself and those around you. Or, do us all a favor and do get yourself another job where other people's children are not entrusted into your care.

These teachers are examples of people who should not be requested to take firearm training. Fortunately no one is doing anything that does not respect their wishes.

I have been on many school faculties and this is a very familiar position. In fact it is the majority position. Trump noted this when he suggested the actual number of volunteers may be around 20%. This is plenty to deter a school shooter from ever entering a school.

As far as the schools needing more resources, the metal detectors and fences — not to mention the armed security people at each check point will suck up all the spare resources. This is also something that worries current staff as there never seems to be enough to educate our kids when union teachers are involved.

They can always whack a killer with a heavy textbook.

Problem solved.

Cruz was obviously suffering from fetal alcohol syndrome.

It’s good to know that paying teachers more would fix that.

Esta mierda otra vez? The teacher is supposed to be paid to teach academics and reinforce proper respect for adults and other students-if that is a “huge burden” that person needs to chose another profession-and no way in hell does their job include seeing to a student’s emotional care-that is the parent’s job and no funding, support, or resources should ever, ever be spent on crap like that again-our taxes are already far too high to pay for the job too many teachers are NOT doing...

"Teachers already shoulder a huge burden when it comes to educating properly, due to lack of funding, support and resources...

That's BS...the worst schools are usually those with the highest per-pupil costs.

Just don’t put those metal detectors, fences, security personnel, etc. on our borders!

One they are not being asked to carry. They would be allowed to carry if they choose.

What they do no seem to get is when they are being attacked they will be acting like a human about to be killed, not a teacher and if they choose to fight like some will, they will have a gun.

Maybe they could arm themselves with a CELL PHONE and call 911 when someone starts shooting up their classroom.

Arm these teachers with bright vests with a target on them, front and back.

Leave it to a politicized Education Establishment to use a tragedy as a call for MORE $$$$$$$$$$$

More books and smaller classes are going to prevent school shootings! equal more teaches and principals and commissions on book sales.

Will do absolutely nothing to prevent more school shootings.

When the first shots are coming her way, she would be more than happy to have a “pistol packing mama” standing next to her.

The more I hear of this, the angrier I get. EdnaMode, please forgive the rant, but...

If kids are FORCED to be in school by law, the school is responsible for their safety.

Period.

If the teachers or some other entity are NOT armed and not actively trying to stop the attack, they are nothing more than a temporary Meat Shield for assh*les like Cruz and other school shooters.

Period. Again.

Heard on the local Democrat Propaganda radio KYW1060am this morning that the BRILLIANT bright shining intellectual lights of the New Jersey Teachers Association was staunchly - STAUNCHLY, mind you (they must have stayed up all night looking up that word) - against arming teachers, saying “it would only make things worse.”

The question, of course, left unasked of the F***ing idiot who made the statement, is “Really? HOW? What’s worse than 17 dead children? 18 Dead? 19 Dead? Maybe you’d prefer 30 or so?”

If anyone says that kind of stupid dreck in front of me, I force them to answer “how could it be worse?”

An armed, trained person who knows how to handle a firearm is ALWAYS a deterrent and has the IMMEDIATE capability of mitigation of the slaughter.

Again, pretty much Period.

And for those that say only LEOs should have guns - there was a Sheriff’s Deputy there who chickensh*tted out and let those kids die without going in after the perp.

Dear Deputy - Hint: YOU were the ONLY ONE THERE who could have stopped this assh*le, and you showed a yellow streak a MILE wide. You should be in jail alongside Cruz, as far as I’m concerned.

WE are the first responders, always, and the ONLY one that has a vested interest in and who CAN save YOUR life is you.

Because CLEARLY, we ARE ON OUR OWN when it comes to self-defense.

Let the Leftard b*tches scream all they want - the President “has a cellphone and a pen” - Remember? A certain fraudulent former _resident made that statement.

Now it’s OUR turn.

Pass a damned Executive Order to arm up trained folks to guard the entrances to schools, and then drag Congress kicking and screaming to make it LAW, like they do everything else, while we have a majority.

Banks have armed security to protect money... why aren’t OUR SCHOOLS protected even more, when THE single most precious thing we have in our lives is forced to be there?

/Rant

What they need is more cooperative, teachable, compliant children; and parents doing their own job of raising such kind of children to work with—ones with a little more of the “Yes, ma’am” or “Yes, sir” attitude they are acclimated to exercise at home..
