FL Gov Scott: Gun Restraining Orders, Gun Buying Age to 21, Bump Stock Ban, Cops in all Schools
The Truth About Guns ^ | 02/23/18 | Robert Farago

Posted on 02/23/2018 8:35:13 AM PST by Simon Green

Speaking at a press conference, Florida Governor Rick Scott has unveiled his plan to prevent another school attack like the one that claimed 17 lives in Parkland, Florida. Governor Scott pledged his support for a “gun violence restraining order,” raising the minimum age to purchase any type of firearm to 21, banning bump fire stocks and putting a police officer in every school.

This ‘officer’ made north of $100,000 PLUS he lived ON THE GROUNDS for free.

Who the hell devised such a system???

Seems to me we should raise the enlistment age to 21, then, Gov. Scott. Seeing as how 18, 19, and 20 YOs are too young to possess a firearm.

What about metal detectors, you know, like the kind at the courthouse???

Unless the guy working the metal detector is dressed in full body armor and carrying a loaded and cocked firearm, the metal detector is no defense against a crazed psycho bent on murder and suicide. He would just end up being victim #1.

I just looked at a shooting last year in Aztec NM. Again that shooter was on the FBI’s radar. Again nothing was done till too late.

All great ideas. 21 tp buy a gun makes great opening for 21 to vote to be revived.

Funny, I don’t see anything about releasing the restrictions on law abiding citizens to arm themselves. So schools will remain a gun-free killing zone.

Brilliant.

The state of Florida had a system called The Baker Act.

That allows even the lowliest cop to place a person into holding by the state for a period of observation.

This kid’s brother was “Bakered’ about 36 hours after this shootings.

NUT-—The shooter was NEVER “Bakered”.

How many people- students included- knew this kid was unstable & said NOTHING???

Make that 17 YO, since 17 year olds can enlist with parental consent.

So, Gov. Scott, you’re suggesting the 17 YO that can enlist to fight and possibly die for his country has no business legally acquiring a firearm?

She didnt want the kid to have a record
She obviously was emotionally and maybe physically battered by these sociopathic kuds she adopted - for years
Like women who are battered by their spouses and refuse to file charges
Calling the cops was like calling Dad with his belt- she hoped they would be scared straight
Social services should have taken those kids
They both belonged in residential centers

And those nice neighbors that took him shooting and took him and his guns in- hope their insurance has good coverage for “ naive” because I’d sue them for everything they own

There is no way of make something “cooler” and in demand for a teenager than banning it (see alcohol and tobacco) my guess, law of unintended consequences, is that as soon as a ban is passed (or even discussed) that gun ownership between this age group will suddenly explode

What a difference 250 years makes.
In 1764, a school house massacre took place. The people demanded guns and militia(the police then) from the pacifist Quaker legislature and were turned down. “NO GUNS FOR YOU!”
They later relented.

After the latest school massacre, the government suggests teachers have guns and armed police, and the public cries...”NO!NO NO GUNS FOR US! NO ARMED POLICE! NO GUNS FOR ANYONE!”

In Georgia -- and I thought in all states -- it really doesn't matter what the victim wants. If there is credible evidence of injury (photos, medical records, hospitalization), the prosecution goes forward.

That's what floors me.

That's sorta covered in the current BATF form 4473 to buy a weapon
Granted, this is an affidavit only - you're taken at your word.

Are you the actual transferee/buyer of the firearm(s)?s

Are you under indictment or information in any court for a felony, or any other crime, for which the judge could imprison you for more than one year?

Have you ever been convicted in any court of a felony, or any other crime, for which the judge could have you imprisoned for more than one year, even if you received a shorter sentence including probation?

Are you a fugitive from justice?

Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?

Have you ever been adjudicated mentally defective (which includes a determination by a court, board, commission, or other lawful authority that you are a danger to yourself or to others or are incompetent to manage your own affairs) or have you ever been committed to a mental institution?

Have you been discharged from the Armed Forces under dishonorable conditions?

Are you subject to a court order restraining you from harassing, stalking, or threatening your child or an intimate partner or child of such partner?

Have you ever been convicted in any court of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence?

Have you ever renounced your United States citizenship?

Are you an alien illegally in the United States?

Are you an alien admitted to the United States under a nonimmigrant visa?

Do you have a valid government-issued photo identification, such as a driver’s license?

Missed the most important one - banning gun free zones.

The gun free school zone legislation was passed in 1990. In the 30 years prior to that date, there were 87 school shootings in the US. Since then (28 years) there have been 271 school shootings. A 3 fold increase.

Sounds like something needed nationwide and enforced by legal liability against those who refuse to do their jobs

Lots of wide open empty space in Utah and Wyoming to build residrntial ranches to house these punks who terrorize their own families and communities and get them off the streets
Yes its a big job
So are a lot of things

If people under 21 are deemed too stupid/suggestible or mentally undeveloped to buy or own guns, that same law should also prevent the under 21 from voting in local, state and federal elections. Tell that to the socialist Democrats pushing for gun restrictions.

Bump stocks are the biggest meme. Something that won’t affect the gun crime rate one iota.

Since the parent, police and school dropped the ball on taking action to formally diagnose this nutter when he was a juvenile, he could truthfully snswer “ no”

And how many of these shooters got the same “ free pass”

As far as his illegal weapons purchases - drop the bar hard on this crime!
Stop letting punks walk
Start in Chicago !

Ps the local cops in my town found a 14 yr old on the street with a loaded weapon. They took the gun- and released him to his grandparents
