It looks like the writer just doesn’t understand how rifle projectiles behave differently from handgun rounds.

She makes it sound like the AR is uniquely more powerful than a handgun when of course that’s true of rifles in general. That’s a big part of why rifles and not handguns are used for hunting. But of course the editors of The Atlantic wanted to use her for propaganda, not because she’s well informed.
Just wait until she learns about rifling.
