We're not all useless, I don't think. Some of us do still teach children and would give our lives protecting them if such a situation arose. Some of us are already CHL holders, myself included, and would not be afraid to use a gun to stop a killer. Plenty of my coworkers are retired military; I am fully confident that they could handle being among the designated armed personnel, if given the opportunity. Please don't paint all educators with such a broad brush; FReepers do that all the time and it gets pretty tiresome. There are more conservative teachers than you realize. You're welcome, by the way...I'm proud to do the job I do, thankless though it usually is.
“There are more conservative teachers than you realize.”
Perhaps but if you were in a majority, our education system would be in MUCH better shape.
I’ve taught in Texas and California and Tennessee, and sadly, the vast majority of teachers in all those states were liberals. I blame the teacher education in the colleges - even in Texas, where I got my first certificate/credential, the education department at A&M was overwhelmingly disgustingly liberal and the students were just lapping it up.
Yes, I paint the education system with a broad brush. And I know that has to be frustrating for you. BUT I am looking at the general picture of the decline in education and in how I wouldn’t trust the majority of teachers to even teach, much less handle a weapon. I realize you are a the whim of your liberal administrators - but I’ve always contended that anyone doing a job that is impossible will move on unless they have a pension. That’s the beauty of teaching in Texas that I saw - our realtor was a former teacher and was making money hand over fist selling like crazy.
Anyway, yes I lump the entire failing education system together. You, being in the minority, just get glossed over. But - would you want every teacher in your school to be armed? Do you trust them?
