Florida Republicans Face Mounting Pressure to Act on Gun Control
NY Times ^ | February 21, 2018 | Alexander Burns and Julie Turkewitz

The campaign ads are already blaring, attacking Florida Republicans for supporting pro-gun laws. Now students — survivors of the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School — have traveled by busloads hundreds of miles to protest at the State Capitol.

Seven days after the killing of 17 people at the Broward County school, Republicans, who dominate government in the state, are facing pressure unlike any they have experienced before to pass legislation addressing gun violence. The State Legislature is in session for roughly two more weeks, and Republicans have concluded that it would be catastrophic to wrap up without doing something to address the mounting outcry.

The debate now is over what counts as doing enough.

... attacking Florida Republicans for supporting pro-gun laws.

Don't need any "pro-gun laws" the Constitution takes care of that.....

What they mean is pro-self-defense laws that allow potential victims a chance to stay alive....

I hope Florida republicans will act on mental health. Infringing on our God-given rights is not an acceptable choice.

Yes, they do. .223 is light for deer (although legal in some states), but perfect for coyotes, prairie dogs, etc. It’s much less expensive than the .243 and similar small, flat-shooting cartridges.

Translation: Republicans are weak-kneed jelly-spined moistened finger artists as always.

That's the main reason the Left is out of control in this country. They KNOW Republicans can be ROLLED.

“Mr. Weatherford, a conservative Republican, said legislators might be able to move quickly on a few tailored proposals, such as raising the legal age for possessing assault rifles.”

Yes, some people do hunt with AR-15s, and yes, that is in turn a red herring. Liberals largely deny the fundamental right to self-defense, so therefore the fact that the AR-15 is excellent for home defense becomes immaterial.

Make no mistake . These little snowflakes are going to turn into to voters, who are going to join city councils, who are going to turn into mayors, who are going to turn into Senators/Congressmen who will one day pass legislation to confiscate our firearms. One or two generations and the 2nd amendment is repealed. The communists said they would take us down from within. They brainwashed our children.
Like an Afgan militant once said, “You may have firepower on your side, but time is on our side.”

Over many decades, significant gun laws were enacted after school and other mass shootings, yet here we are today and we still have mass shootings. I can think of many laws that would quell the angry masses right now, but not one that would solve the problem.
