Pennsylvania Supreme Court issues new election map
Fox News ^ | 19 February 2018 | AP

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Pennsylvania's high court issued a new congressional district map for the state's 2018 elections on its self-imposed deadline Monday, all but ensuring that Democratic prospects will improve in several seats and that Republican lawmakers challenge it in federal court. The map of Pennsylvania's 18 congressional districts is to be in effect for the May 15 primary and substantially overhauls a congressional map widely viewed as among the nation's most gerrymandered. The map was approved in a 4-3 decision. Most significantly, the new map likely gives Democrats a better shot at winning seats in Philadelphia's heavily populated and moderate suburbs, where Republicans had held seats in bizarrely contorted districts, including one labeled "Goofy Kicking Donald Duck."

If this illegal court-drawn map is correct, this would turn a 13R-5D to somewhere around 10D-8R. Districts 1-7, 9, 10 & 18 would all remain or go Dem. 8 & 17 may also stand a chance of going Dem, which would then make it a 12D-6R breakdown. This egregious power grab and disenfranchisement of the voting majority of PA Republicans MUST be stopped, period.

“The legislature could not come up with a map.

Have you even informed yourself??

Of course the legislature came up with a map.
The Demoncrat governor rejected it.

The PA Supreme Court - that has no authority to draw maps - came up with this.

Well then, if your feelings are the basis for what is legal, instead of facts and law, perhaps you’d be more comfortable at one of the liberal coffee groups on your campus.

This has triggered a constitutional crisis, The PA SC has usurped authority from the legislature. The legislature redid the maps but they were instantly turned down by PA’s Dem Governor.

The gerrymandering was done to make sure blacks could get elected. Not sure who the SC Justices we’re at the time and I’m too lazy to look it up.

Toomey won 13 of the new districts. It was definitely drawn to favor Democrats and it was completely unconstitutional but it’s not as favorable for the Rats as the Koskiddies are claiming. In a bad year for the GOP they should be able to pick up 10 or 11 if these. In a good year 13.

I think the Supreme Court did a pretty good job.

They did a good job? According to The Hill, It's a major win for Democrats!

A simple rule that the perimeter-to-area ratio never be more than a set number.... that’s all that needed to end 90% of these political games..

Few things are more political. It is why the courts should butt out. The problem is state constitutions like mine in FL. Here, the rats got the people to ratify an amendment that prohibits political considerations in the drawing of districts. Imagine that. From a practical standpoint it means our thoroughly leftist supreme court designs congressional districts.

This isn’t free government.

Normal if the goal is to maximize urban seats. Looks like the most rural “T” of the state is fenced into 3 districts, except that State College / University park (with 60,000+ democrat students each year) is divided between 2 rural ones to reduce the Republican opportunity.

“Fairness” to a given party is NOT one of the requirements for legislative districts, but that’s why the judges (D’s) rejected both the legislatures duly drawn map, and the governor’s changes to it.

I’ll wager that the court’s map favors one side or the other, and that the party with the short end of the stick will protest! Any takers?

Are you serious? The PA Supreme Court has no more authority to draw that map than I do. That's a responsibility granted solely to legislatures.

States are supposed to have authority over marriages, too. That kind of went by the boards.
