Here’s Why Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Never Reported Nikolas Cruz to the Police
The Truth About Guns ^ | Feb 16 2018 | Luis Valdes

Nikolas Cruz was a known threat. Known by the administrators of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. It’s a clear case where a known dangerous student was not reported to the police. Why?

Because back in 2013, the Broward County School Board adopted a program where they don’t relay information to police about troubled students.

NPR reported in Fla. School District Trying To Curb School-To-Prison Pipeline;

It’s a move away from so-called “zero tolerance” policies that require schools to refer even minor misdemeanors to the police. Critics call it a “school to prison pipeline.”

Under a new program adopted by the Broward County School District, non-violent misdemeanors — even those that involve alcohol, marijuana or drug paraphernalia — will now be handled by the schools instead of the police.

Cruz was banned from carrying a backpack at school after bullets were found in his backpack. Cruz was expelled from MSD last year after a fight with his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend.

Non-violent misdemeanors? Even so, red flags were flying.

Again, the Broward County School Board has an official policy requiring that they don’t tell the police about non-violent incidents with troubled youth.

“...up to and including the bullets at school in the backpack.”

That in and of itself may have been cause for alarm or not. The guy was in the ROTC program and could have forgotten about them. However - his other behavior (like why they felt they needed to search his pack), in conjunction with the bullets should have raised the level - which it did. “Okay - we’re going to nip it in the bud right now - you can’t bring a back pack to school!” That, and the 30+ times he has been visited by the cops.

I am just so irritated. Yes this was a tragedy, but I read on Drudge that they are planning to tear down the building where the shooting happened. If I was a taxpayer, I would be outraged. Use the money to get armed security. To tear down a perfectly good building is a disgraceful waste.

Let’s see... Ban guns, or ban idiots? I suspect that the reason we have a spate of shootings might be related to 50,000 texts and Candy Crush.

So! Now it comes out. The school administration didn't do its job. It put its students into harms way. It was just a matter of time. And, time ran out.

These administrators need to be called out.

Lawmakers agree to destroy site of school carnage

Sure, Tear it down. Afterall it isn't their money. So what if a few millions of taxpayer money is wasted. So what if Broward County property taxes are already five times higher than for my county. They can go up another 10-20% or so to pay for this idiocy. No big deal.

Can the district be sued, by these poor parents, who’ve suffered the unthinkable over this absurd policy??

Of course they can. But who will pay? The district’s insurance carrier and the district’s taxpayers.

The district doesn’t care; the people that failed to report this nut don’t pay the settlements - the taxpayers (including the parents of the dead victims) will pay the bill.

Once owners or shareholders are out of the equation, common-sense legal concepts disappear as well. Whether they are police brutality cases, child rapes by those in charge of children, FBI ignoring warning flags - in the end, there are no “owners” paying the legal bills/settlements - just us.

This is a real obstacle to these “prisoner re-entry” programs, by which the government wants employers to hire convicts upon their release. There is a liability issue for the employers if these convicts attack someone on the job; why would the owner(s) assume that responsibility?

In the Stoneman HS case, their security system should be fully examined and brought to public discussion. Particularly because this school has a so called “gun free zone” . With exception of one officer who patrols the 45 acre site in a golf cart. But prohibits other security members from having guns. Also examine records reporting how student vs student, and student vs teacher altercations, vandalism, and thefts, which are bound to occur were being dealt with.

Because in an educational unit this size it’s pretty clear their security system failed . In a secure system Cruz would have never gotten inside.

the policy to refuse to make a police referral, and/or MH referral includes violent actions not involving physical contact such as threat of violence.

The "meth control act" circa 1997, makes it a fed crime to hire someone convicted of drug trafficking or manufacturing, if access to articles used in illicit drug manufacture would result from that employment.

N.Y. state then sues the companies that do not hire those released felons.

They didn’t want to ‘label’ him as a mental case. So now he’s labeled as a MURDERER! The blood from 17 dead students should label that school system-and every individual who considered the killer instead of his potential victims! They are accessories to murder and if MY child were a victim jobs would be lost and I would not rest until ‘mainstreming’ of dangerous mental cases ended forever.

I don’t know. The family dropped out of the news. The cases they brought against everyone were dismissed. The whole thing was very strange. The people that saw something and said something were harshly vilified by the local press, national press, the democrats and Hussein himself. Message...don’t say anything about Muslims

Especially in the UK. It's considered hate speech and you can be brought up on charges.
