The former student suspected of opening fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland may have been identified as a potential threat to fellow students in the past, according to one teacher.
The 19-year-old ex-student, who has been detained by Broward police, has not been publicly identified as a suspect. But a law-enforcement source identified him as Nicolas Cruz.
“We were told last year that he wasn’t allowed on campus with a backpack on him,” said math teacher Jim Gard, who said Cruz had been in his class last year. “There were problems with him last year threatening students, and I guess he was asked to leave campus.”
The Broward County School District Superintendent, however, told reporters on Wednesday afternoon that he did not know of any concerns raised about the student.

The school does have police. They must have been on break
So once again, it is less a problem of guns and more a problem of bureaucrats failing to follow through on the mentally ill and those with violent tendencies. We need much better evaluation and monitoring of these ticking time bombs.
Even when they are clearly identified as in this case where the entire school knew he was a potential time bomb, law enforcment was unable to do a thing to stop it.
Either it is unstoppable and just a cost we have to pay for our freedom, or someone brilliant and creative is going to have to identify a way to codify these time bombs and create a process by society whereby these people are constantly monitored, if possible, through social media and email, etc.
Almost all of these shooters are known in their communities as real trouble. I’d be curious to see what kind of drugs this guy was taking.

One thing we can say about this mutt is that he wasn’t an NRA member. None of these shooters ever are yet the NRA is always blamed.
There is little causation or correlation between antidepressants and violence.
moreover, you do not see him anntidrpresent use among inner-city youth however, you do see rates of violence that are higher than suburban and rural populations.

Let’s call a spade a spade. Popular word usage is instructive. In recent decades, when there is a problem in a school, the building is secured and the local government and local media refer to the situation as “XYZ High School is in lockdown due to....” “Lockdown is a term long used for prisons where there has been an incident and all the inmates are locked into their cells until the incidents are resolved. So schools should be treated just like prisons with strict control on ingress and egress and guards on duty during hours of operation who are armed and charged with protecting students, faculty and staff and trained and authorized to use deadly force. Take some pages from the Israeli book on domestic security and take them seriously.
