Silvia Lesama-Santos, a mother of four who is covered by her husband’s insurance and has lived in Portland for 30 years, was originally denied care at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) hospital because of her immigration status, the Oregonian reports.
The Oregon chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) took up Lesama-Santos’ case, putting out a statement on Tuesday calling for the hospital to roll back any policy that limits access to organ transplants based on immigration status. “Everyone deserves to have access to life-saving medical care,” the statement reads. “It is inhumane and cruel to deny care to undocumented members of our community. This is an unfair practice that goes against our values as Oregonians.”
Dr. Willscott Naugler, medical director for the liver transplant program at OHSU, told the Oregonian that the hospital had apparently mistakenly equated being undocumented with being uninsured. “It’s unfortunate that it was recognized just [Tuesday] night and it’s one of the things that makes us all feel sick and really want to do as much as we can to support this poor family because they’ve been through a lot,” Naugler said. (Lesama-Santos first sought an evaluation for a liver transplant last year, but the process was halted because she was uninsured at the time, according to the Oregonian.)

Obamacare language has medical care rationing based on gender and race criteria. They have soured and based their platforms on race and gender issues to keep hatred on these issues high in peoples minds. These people rationalize well maybe i can do something and allow the old white guy in hospital to skip his post op meds or let him get dehydrated, or just npt check on him all shift.

Lemme guess. This illegal won’t have the money or insurance to pay for it so her bill will be passed on to the rest of us. BTDT - the illegal’s procedure worked but mine didn’t but I had the privilege of paying for both.

This has to be one of the reprehensible and vile acts in the face of all American citizens of any color or sex who needs an organ transplant to be turned down. To be said no to, so an illegal can get that organ transplant on our $’s.
To be fair, the rule change only allowed the woman to begin the preliminary stuff (testing, paperwork) to get on the transplant list. She couldn’t even get on the list until the rule was changed. So, she has not had a transplant.

No prob. I like to keep the “Umbrage Level” at a “operating with most of the facts” standard. If the woman had been skipped to the head of the line and had her transplant, my umbrage would have been at the “high” level, as in high umbrage. This story just gets a medium umbrage alert from me.
He's on a slow path to recovery, on dialysis. About five months ago my sister and brother-in-law went on a cruise ship. He was healthy for a 70-year-old, no problems. They came back and all of a sudden he got sickly. Admitted to hospital and then into ICU, his liver failing. He was put on a transplant list. Other organs beginning to shut down, including his kidneys. He was near death when he got the liver transplant, but his kidneys were so messed up from the toxins in his body that he was put on dialysis until his kidneys recover. He went back home after a month, but my sis has to take him to dialysis treatments constantly for months ahead. He still does not know what triggered his problems. Could happen to anyone, and is scary. Just after return from the cruise, they got evacuated from the Sonoma fires, almost lost their home. They've had their share of misfortune lately.
