These Dreamers will leave the U.S. if a DACA deal isn't reached

Alex and Daniela Velez have come to peace with the difficult choice they will need to make if Congress doesn't reach a deal for those covered by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program by its March 5 deadline: They will leave the country.

"Alex and I are both over this [DACA situation]," said Daniela, who is 24 years old. "If DACA ends, I will leave with Alex. I will close my business, leave work and school."

The Velez sisters are two of nearly 689,000 young adults who are currently protected from deportation under DACA. The Obama-era program allowed young Dreamers who were brought to the United States as children to come out from the shadows and enroll in college, obtain driver's licenses and legally secure jobs.

In September, President Trump announced he would end DACA and left it up to Congress to come up with alternative legislation. But with less than a month until that March 5 expiration date, lawmakers and the Trump administration remain at an impasse.

Should they fail to put another option in place, 915 Dreamers will lose protection from deportation each day, according to the Migration Policy Institute.

Funny. I look at that photo and what I see is a target-rich environment.

If the business is viable, any vacuum will be filed before they cross the Rio Grande. If they are good at running a business, they will undoubtedly succeed anywhere they go.

When I was a kid we’d see pictures of people like that in the National Geographic———and be horrified.

SHAME SHAME, dissing these waifs.

LOL calm down ICE boy. You are talking to someone who came here legally. ITIN is what the US govt designates you even back in the 80’s to immigrants. I even personally know someone who went from ITIN to citizenship, beating even me in timing. Unlike this diligent NOW citizen, she knew which avenues to pursue. MOST of these illegals are too damn stupid or lazy thinking they’ll be shielded forever by a Dem president.

Their home country will be enriched by people with their education and industry.
.
Win-win.

At least you didn't say the average IQ will rise on both sides of the border.

Well, good for them one of them is working on her THIRD associate’s degree ( did she pay her tuition or get a loan, with no intention of paying it back-cos that’s what Mommy and Daddy did when they came here on a visitor visa with no intention of leaving)?

Look, Dreamers, it is not our responsibility to make sure you get your stolen dreams. We want those dreams for OUR kids and grandkids. So stop with the “Oh, this kid’s life will be ruined if they have to go back home and it’s all our fault “ stories. Come here legally, compete equally... just like the rest of us legal residents do. Simple.

Where are these DACA adults parents? Are they still here or have they gone back to their native countries?

Not sure why you reacted that way to a sincere question about the process of becoming a US citizen.
