Boy, you can’t win with the left. I remember whenever I’ve been in France how appreciative they were when we tried to speak French. Normal people unlike SJWs.

In my experience, French people outside Paris appreciate attempts to speak their language. Parisians frequently will pretend not to understand. I have not much more than tourist French, but my accent is quite good (I never have this incomprehension trouble in Switzerland).

We used to spend a lot of time in Mexico. Hubby and ex sis in law speak Spanish. They’d have full on conversations with people while I stood there looking stupid. Lol. The Mexican people didn’t mind and seemed to enjoy it.
I knew the basics. Food. Beer. Bathrooms. Please and thank you.
